The Internet is losing it over this hair trend
Celebrities can’t get enough of it
There’s a new way to wear your bob (or lob) and it’s about to become spring’s biggest must-have, putting a new polished twist on a classic look.
It’s called glass hair and it’s all about super shiny hair that basically looks like it’s been cut from, well, a piece of glass (read: sharp, blunt ends). The best bit? It works on all hair colours.
The trend has officially taken Hollywood by storm, with the likes of Kim Kardashian, Olivia Culpo, Jenna Dewan and Hailey Baldwin getting amongst the glossy, crisp hair look.
We don’t want to make a big deal out of it, but we were onto this trend early! Back in March we wrote about Olivia Palermo’s glass hair look, and it seems like she may have been the one to start the whole thing.
Dubbed the ‘bent glass’ look by Olivia on her website, she wore the look at NYFW and basically looked like a walking mirror.
In an Instagram post, celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton (the man behind Kim Kardashian’s glass hair), said the look takes some inspiration straight from the ‘90s. “The inspiration was 90s swishy glass hair. I wanted to create a really intense shine… For me getting an intense shine was [a] really important part of our look.”
As can be expected, this trend is filtering out from the celebs to us mere mortals. Pinterest has recently reported that glass hair is trending big time, with the straight sleek hairstyle fast becoming the look du jour.
So how exactly does one obtain glass hair? Well, Appleton says it involves a couple of different shine-enhancing products (and a sharp, blunt bob – obvs). “On wet hair, I applied the Color Wow ‘Dream Coat’ then blowdried the hair using a large round bristle brush. Unlike the sleek styles we’ve done in the past, we wanted the hair to have some volume, so I kicked the ends under for the cute 90s twist. I always finish off with a drop of Color Wow ‘Hair Pop and Lock’ just to finish off the shine and lock in the style.”
We also recommend trying Oribe Shine Light Reflecting Spray and La Biosthétique Glossing Spray for a sleek, glossy finish.
