Margot Robbie’s Superstar Barbie hair is the ultimate summer inspo

No one does a red carpet quite like Margot Robbie. From serving iconic press tour looks to crowning the latest trends, Robbie has solidified her status as a bona fide beauty icon. And her Golden Globes glam just took it to a whole other level.

Staying true to her press tour iterations of iconic Barbie dolls, Robbie leaned into the Barbiecore aesthetic yet again, with a Superstar Barbie-inspired look complete with glowy, natural makeup and flawless golden waves. 

Whilst her Barbie hair looks required more than 40 hair pieces and a whole team of hairstylists, it turns out Robbie’s Golden Globes hair is much easier to recreate – all it takes is a trip to the salon.

So how does one nail the perfect, shiny, lived-in blonde? According to Schwartz, a gradual approach to lightening is key.

“I coined the term ‘spun with gold’ because the hair looks lit from within, where it's all cohesively lighter,” Schwartz explains. “There are still highlights and there’s still dimension, but it looks more effortless. We've gradually gone blonder with Margot, but we've been touching it up and keeping it fresh and bright.”

As the global ambassador for OLAPLEX, Schwartz relies on the brand’s hero products (both professional and at-home products) to nail the bright, blonde aesthetic.

“When I highlight Margot and any of my other clients, I always use about a quarter ounce of OLAPLEX Nº.1 Bond Multiplier in my lightener, or bleach. That is the most important part,” he says. “Then, when I rinsed the foils and took the highlights out, I applied OLAPLEX Bond Perfector Nº.2 and let it sit in the hair for about 10 minutes. Then I gloss her and use the OLAPLEX Nº.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo ($54 at Sephora) and OLAPLEX Nº.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner ($54 at Sephora).”

Schwartz also emphasizes the importance of prioritising hydration in your haircare routine, especially for blondes. His product of choice? The OLAPLEX Nº.6 Bond Smoother ($54 at Adore Beauty) for an easy leave-in treatment.

“The OLAPLEX Nº.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and Nº.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner are important,” Schwartz explains. “And then, if you want a good hydrating mask, I would say the OLAPLEX Nº.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask ($54 at Sephora), which you could use once a week or twice a month.”

As for maintaining a bright, “spun with gold” look, sans the brassiness? “For a blonde like Margot, I would also substitute OLAPLEX Nº.4P and OLAPLEX Nº.5P ($81 at Oz Hair & Beauty) biweekly to keep the colour fresh and with no brassiness.”
