Lavender hair is the unexpected trend to try this spring

“Florals for spring? Groundbreaking”

BEAUTYcrew Beauty Editor / September 14 2022

We’re only two weeks into spring and it's already becoming very clear that this season is all about florals. Groundbreaking, we know.

But rather than resurrecting last year’s floral dress, we’re sporting spring perfumes with sweet botanical scents and painting our hair shades of lavender.

In fact, according to Pinterest there’s been a 35 per cent increase in searches for “lavender hair” this season.

As far as spring and summer hair trends go – this is adventurous. That’s why we’re here to hold your hand through the process…

How to find the right shade of lavender hair dye

When finding your perfect shade of lavender, we suggest looking at the undertone of your skin. Cooler undertones should lean towards periwinkle shades of hair dye, while warmer skin tones should search for lavender hues that err on the pink side of the colour spectrum.

If you’ve been blessed with a neutral undertone, you can get away with a wider range of colour options, so your personal preference will take precedence over colour theory.

Lavender hair inspiration

Thanks to a slew of easy-to-use temporary and semi-permanent options, you can try the lavender hair trend from the comfort of your own home. But if you’d like a hair colour that boasts longevity and nuance, we suggest going in-salon for best results.

Lavender creates a beautiful base for more daring and experimental hair colour looks, too. Dabble with reflective splashes of rainbow or get your colourist to paint in pastel highlights to frame your face and add dimension.

Where to buy lavender hair dye

When buying lavender hair dye it’s important to check the packaging as this will give you an indication of how long the colour will last after application.

Most temporary hair dyes will fade after a few washes, while semi-permanent will last a bit longer by comparison. There is also the potential that it can stain your strands if you have lighter hair.

Leaving the work in the capable hands of your hair colourist is your best option if you want to commit to long-lasting lavender hair. But if you want to attempt the look yourself these are the products we trust for the job…

We recommend:

Lunar Tides Hair Dye in ‘Pastel Iris’ ($19.95 at Berserk); Arctic Fox Hair Colour in ‘Girls Night’ ($27.95 at Beautopia); and BRITE ORGANIX Organix Semi Permanent Hair Colour in ‘Lavender’ ($10.99 at Priceline).
