Joey King just debuted gold hair at Schiaparelli
Last week, fashion retailer Neiman Marcus held a special event in Los Angeles honouring Schiaparelli's creative director, Daniel Roseberry.
Just about every celebrity in Hollywood was in attendance, including Joey King, who arrived in a gold Schiaparelli corset and earrings, and a slicked back hairstyle gilded in liquified gold leaf. The effect was breathtaking.
Naturally, being the nosey little so and so’s we are, we had to find out exactly how King managed to create such an avant-garde look for the evening.
Thankfully, we didn’t have to search too hard, because her hair stylist Dimitris Giannetos dished each step in the process – and the exact products he used – via Instagram.
“Joey went to a Schiaparelli event in Los Angeles [and] she was wearing a total Schiaparelli golden outfit,” Giannetos said in the caption. “I wanted to keep the hair very simple and pushed back — just adding a gold element.”
The exact steps and products used to create Joey King’s gold hair
1/ After towel drying King’s hair, Giannetos sprayed her hair with Uberliss Frizz Elixir, which he said helps to protect the hair from heat and humidity. Unfortunately, Uberliss products aren’t available in Australia, but we really rate the John Frieda Frizz Ease 3 Day Straight Heat Protection Spray ($10.50 at Woolworths) as an alternative.
2/ Next, Giannetos blowdried King’s hair with a round brush.
3/ Then he added some bends into the hair using a curling iron with a one and a half inch barrel, and brushed the hair through.
4/ After this he sprayed the hairline with the Uberliss Flexin Hairspray (also not available in Australia), and combed the hair at the same time. According to Giannetos the argan oil-infused Uberliss hairspray helped to shape the hair and provide long-lasting hold, which is why we’d recommend reaching for the Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray ($46 at Sephora) instead.
5/ Now for the good bit… To create the gold effect, Giannetos sprayed the hair with more hairspray to make King’s strands tacky, and then he applied gold leaf ($16.99 at Amazon Australia) to the crown of her head, spraying with more hairspray once he’d laid each piece of gold leaf down.
6/ Lastly, he dried and set the gold leaf with a hairdryer.
