James Charles lands Vogue cover

Beauty Youtube star James Charles rose to fame after his ultra-glam yearbook photo went viral and prompted a deal with global makeup brand COVERGIRL. Since the outspoken makeup artist has made many headlines, but this time it’s for all the right reasons. 

In arguably the most major six-word statement anyone could ever say, James Charles tweeted mere hours ago: “I’M ON THE COVER OF VOGUE”. 

Vogue Portugal’s latest issue titled ‘The Beauty Of Imperfection’ is available with two cover options, one of which features a close-up Charles sporting a signature brightly painted makeup look.

Interestingly, the other cover is nothing but text, which reads: “Do you buy a magazine just for the cover?”. In this instance, we say yes because hot damn does Charles look good.

The theme of the issue “imperfection” is described by Vogue as being “that ugly word that makes us want to better ourselves. That beautiful word, that drains monotony and stagnation from everyday life”. 

This could explain the reason why the renowned title went with a Youtuber for the cover, rather than its traditional models, actors and musicians, whose beauty is often interpreted as unattainable.  

Despite already appearing within issues of Italian and Australian Vogue’s, this is the first time Charles has landed the cover, exclaiming to Twitter, “I can’t believe this is real and can’t wait for you guys to be able to read the entire issue”. 

Traditionally, internet sensations (despite their virality) have been snubbed by the title when it comes to covers. Other print magazines have been quick to recognise the online beauty community, with past issues of Cosmopolitan featuring the likes of Emma Chamberlain and GLAMOUR UK even championing three at once, with Huda Kattan, Zoe Sugg and Patricia Bright all former cover stars. 

Perhaps with Vogue now recognising the power of beauty influencers, we’ll be seeing more of our favourite Youtube stars grace the cover.
