Why The Body Shop’s Shea Body Lotion should be on your must-buy list this month
Honestly, it’s not exactly like we need an excuse to buy a beauty product. Especially if that product is The Body Shop’s iconic Shea Body Lotion. Besides the fact that it is a bathroom staple thanks to its rich and long-lasting nourishing formula, the feel-good element of knowing it’s made from Community Fair Trade shea butter and handcrafted by the women in Ghana makes is one we’re happy to get behind.
And from this month, we all have a brand-new excuse to do a monthly top-up of the creamy stuff. From March 17, 2020 (up until December), $5 from every purchase of The Body Shop’s Shea Body Lotion goes directly to Plan International Australia’s Youth Activist Series, to empower young people who are campaigning for equality.
If you haven’t heard much about The Body Shop’s partnership with Plan International Australia, here’s a bit of background for you: The Body Shop has always championed female empowerment, so it joined forces with Plan International Australia, the charity for girls equality, to help launch the dreams of Australia’s future activists, leaders and change-makers (you may remember its Dream Big campaign from Christmas time). Now, their focus is on the Plan International Australia’s Youth Activist Series (quite aptly shortened to YAS), which is a 12-month leadership opportunity for young people of all genders and identities between the ages of 15 and 24 to create change, develop valuable skills, forge lifelong friendships and channel their passion for gender justice by campaigning and speaking truth to power.
This year, nine inspirational young Australian women from Melbourne and Sydney have been hand-selected to be part of the YAS, all of whom are committed to creating long-lasting social change and fighting for equality, human rights and the environment.
Through the donation of the $5 from The Body Shop’s Shea Body Lotion (the brand will donate a total of $120,000), these exceptional young ladies will learn essential activism and leadership skills and get involved in advocacy and campaigning, media and public speaking, and collective action to fight for equality.
So, should you stock up on a cult fave body lotion that you love and help the next generation of women make change? Yeah, we think that’s something worth getting into.
