Rihanna announces second pregnancy during Super Bowl halftime performance
Rihanna’s Super Bowl halftime performance had it all; a bright red Loewe bustier, a cheeky Fenty blotting powder cameo, and oh, you know, a casual second pregnancy announcement.
Yep, the Fenty Beauty founder is pregnant with her second child and shared the news on the world stage as only Rihanna could.
Her subtle tummy rub in the opening bars of her performance was the only thing that could tear our eyes away from the new red lip she was wearing.
Of course, this was quickly followed by the question, “is Rihanna really pregnant?”. Luckily, we didn’t have to wait long as a rep confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter shortly after the 34-year-old exited the stage.
But we do have more questions, including...
When is Rihanna’s second baby due?
The singer is keeping the due date of her second baby as tight-lipped as her first. Her last pregnancy announcement was speculated to have taken place at around 20 weeks. So if you apply the same assumption this time, the due date could potentially be around July 2023.
How old is Rihanna’s first baby?
Rihanna welcomed her first baby with partner A$AP Rocky in May 2022, making him nine months old. His name is yet to be confirmed.
Who is the father of Rihanna’s baby?
A$AP Rocky is Rihanna’s boyfriend and the pair have been linked romantically since 2020. He is the father of her first child and was seen supporting the singer at her Super Bowl halftime performance, cheering in the crowd.
Has Rihanna said anything about her second pregnancy?
Rihanna is yet to directly address her second pregnancy, but in a pre-game interview with Apple Music she did speak about the decision to headline the halftime show as a new mum.
“I mean, when I first got the call to do it again this year, I was like, ‘Psst, you sure?’ I’m three months postpartum, like, should I be making major decisions like this now? Like I might regret this,” she said.
“But when you become a mum, there’s something that just happens where you feel like you could take on the world, you could do anything. And the Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world. So as scary as that was because I haven’t been on stage in seven years, there’s something exhilarating about the challenge of it all. And it’s important for me to do this this year. It’s important for representation, it’s important for my son to see that.”
And really, is there any cooler story than telling your child one day that they were in your belly while you slayed it on stage at the Super Bowl? Honestly, only Rihanna.
