The frosted makeup of the ‘00s just got a modern makeover
If there’s one thing life has taught us, it’s that real trends never die.
Beauty trends of the past are like sleeping beauty; fallen into a deep slumber for several years only to be awakened by the love of a new generation.
The latest trend to come out of cultural hibernation? The frosted makeup trend popularised at the turn of the millenia.
Tween us would dog-ear pictures of Hilary Duff and Paris Hilton in the pages of our DOLLY and Girlfriend magazines whenever we caught a glimpse of shimmer eyeshadow and glitter-flecked lip gloss.
The modern edition of the frosted makeup trend on the other hand, is all gloss, glimmer and sheen, and speaks to cultural icons of the times.
Namely, Hailey Bieber and her obsession with glazed donut skin, lips and nails.
The best frosted makeup to buy
The great news is, whether you’re a lips or lids kind of person, frosted makeup can be integrated into your makeup routine with ease.
Slick a layer of shimmer gloss over your lips for a lowkey take on the trend, amp up the glow with a highlighter on the high points of your face, or go all in with a glitter pigment.
It’s totally up to you.
We’ve taken the liberty of rounding up a few products we really rate for tackling this trend head on…
We recommend:
SEPHORA COLLECTION Colorful Magnetic Eyeshadow in ‘11 Big Bang’ ($14 at Sephora); DEAR DAHLIA Paradise Shine Eye Sequins in ‘Crystal Trance’ ($51 at Sephora); and MAKE UP FOR EVER Star Lit Diamond Powder Highlighter in ‘106 Green White’ ($41 at Sephora).
FENTY BEAUTY Gloss Bomb Ice Cold Heart'D Lip Gloss ($37 at Sephora); Nikkia Joy Cosmetics Snowflake Metallic Pigment ($19 at Nikkia Joy Cosmetics); and Lemonhead LA Spacepaste in ‘Mirage’ ($36.09 at Revolve).
With frosted makeup trending and the holidays just around the corner, we think it’s the perfect time to invest in a glitter eyeshadow palette.

Since then, her keen interest in fashion and beauty has landed her gigs as a Digital Content Producer and Beauty Editor with titles like Girlfriend, Refinery29, BEAUTYcrew and beautyheaven. She loves the way seemingly innocuous topics like skin care and style have the ability to put a smile on people’s faces or make them think about themselves a little differently. A big believer in self love and experimentation, Briar has made a point of becoming the Australian beauty industry’s unofficial guinea pig for unusual treatments and daring hair trends. When she’s not testing out the latest beauty launches, Briar is big on broadening her horizons, mostly in the form of food but she’s also partial to travelling to new destinations both near and far (and of course, allocating an extra bag to bring their best beauty offerings home with her).
