Dua Lipa enters cryptic new era with red hair

Drop the album, Dua

Dua Lipa released her last album ‘Future Nostalgia’ in 2020, but bar a brief appearance on the Barbie soundtrack, she’s been relatively mum on the music-making front.

But judging by her Instagram, it appears the singer may be hinting at a potential album release.

Much like Doja Cat’s recent social media rebrand that supported the release of her new album ‘Scarlet’, Lipa’s removed all of her previous Instagram posts.

In early October, the 28-year-old shared an image of herself with freshly dyed cherry mocha red hair and a caption that read “miss me?”, which has since been deleted.

Even stranger still, is the fact that she set an Instagram Story live simultaneously that seemed to allude to a project that goes beyond the sonic release of a standard album launch.

The cryptic video (a kaleidoscopic close-up of Lipa’s peepers) served as an artsy backdrop for a link to a website called DuaLipa.com.

The website prompts visitors to the site to “click to sign up for…”, while words like ‘joy’, ‘love’, ‘fun’, ‘optimism’ and ‘energy’ flash in a sequential strobe transition.

After you hand over your personal information, the fine print states you’ll receive information pertaining to Dua Lipa's new project.

But the cryptic Instagram posts don't end there, because on the 29th of October Lipa shared a montage of footage to the social media platform with the accompanying caption "I'm not here for long".

In the video, fans can see close up shots of the singers face and flaming red hair as she plays with a key pendant, which later ends up balanced on her tongue in the final frame of the video.

Fingers crossed this means we’re getting a new album, a world tour, or both…

Regardless, we’re just happy for the new aesthetic; we’ve been watching her ‘Dance The Night’ music video on repeat for glam makeup inspiration a few too many times…
