The 'bubble bob' is proving that shape is the secret to a stellar short haircut
A newly-named haircut seems to crop up every few weeks at this rate. The Internet’s appetite for cute cuts (and equally adorable names) is ravenous, but some definitely stick around for longer than others.
The latest one definitely has some serious staying power – it's been building traction for a minute now, and Hollywood are even getting involved.
Said cut is here to prove a point, too: the secret to short hair success is shape. Yep, the 'bubble bob' has arrived on the scene and its power is (forgive us) yet to be popped. Here’s the lowdown (and a look at the coveted cut)…
What is the ‘bubble bob’?
With its name stemming from the ‘rounded’ shape it shows off, the bubble bob is a chin-grazing cut with some seriously ‘swooshy’ body.
It’s not a necessity, but a little asymmetrical action will leave your bubble bob looking (and feeling) extra airy. By leaving the front a little longer and the back a touch shorter, the face-framing layer will be left with extra movement, a big win considering swish-factor is a big part of the chop's appeal. On top of that, a sloping cut is a fabulously sneaky way to make your jawline look extra snatched.
FYI, Elsa Hosk and Lori Harvey are two of the chop's extremely chic celeb fans, and they're both showing off the bubble bob's power beautifully...
How to get a ‘bubble bob’
Wondering what to ask for? We’ve got you. Of course, reference pics are always your best bet for leaving the salon feeling stoked about your new look, but request wise, you’ll want to ask your hairdresser for a chin-length bob with a bit of weight taken out at the back.
And of course, you’ll need them to give you that stunning inward flick at the ends to lock in the rounded shape. It's worth flagging that because the style relies on said shape, it’s best suited to those who prefer to wear their hair airy but sleek (and generally centre-parted to keep the style even on both sides).
A glassy, gleaming finish is also a must with a bubble bob, so we advise stocking up on shine spray post-chop. Our fave? The Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Hair Styling Spray ($61 at Sephora). It’s even the brand behind some of Kylie Jenner’s shiniest hair moments so you know it’s good stuff…
