6 fresh skin care trends gearing up to change the game in 2025

Turmeric said ‘2025 is gonna be my year’

Editor / December 21 2024

Look, we totally get it: we all expect a lot from our skin already (ideally staying clear, happy and hydrated through thick and thin), and so the thought of asking it to follow certain ‘trends’ may sound like a tall/totally unnecessary order.

But we promise: these skin care ‘trends’ are actually designed to relieve pressure from your skin’s busy routine, not add more. These types of trends are decided upon by the complexion overlords with the overarching aim of helping you hit your skin goals with less stress. And that’s something we at BEAUTYcrew can completely get behind.

So as you plan out your skin care roadmap for the year ahead, allow us to present the 2025 skin trends to watch out for (and try if you’re so willing). Aesthetic Nurse Kelly Swann was kind enough to give us all the intel into her insights, and we were hooked from the first word…

In: Overnight oils

"Overnight skin care is set to flourish in 2025, with a special focus on overnight oils for both skin and hair”, says Swann. “These products work while you sleep to deeply nourish and rejuvenate, taking advantage of the skin’s natural repair processes during the night. Incorporate a lightweight overnight oil into your evening routine. Look for oils rich in fatty acids, such as argan or rosehip oil, to nourish your skin without clogging pores.”

In: Turmeric and vitamin C

Turmeric and vitamin C face scrubs are gaining popularity due to their powerful antioxidant properties and anti-inflammatory benefits,” Swann explains. “Turmeric brightens and evens skin tone, while vitamin C boosts collagen production and protects against environmental damage. Consumers are increasingly seeking natural and effective ingredients in their skin care routines. When choosing a turmeric and vitamin C scrub, look for products with natural exfoliants like sugar or crushed nuts. You can also create a DIY scrub by mixing turmeric powder with honey and brown sugar for a glowing complexion!"

In: Microbiome-infused body care

"The microbiome is becoming a focal point in skin care, and for good reason", Swann points out. "A healthy skin microbiome is essential for maintaining balance and protecting against environmental stressors. In 2025, we’ll see a rise in body care products infused with probiotics and prebiotics designed to nurture the skin’s natural microbiome. Look for body lotions and serums that specifically mention microbiome support or contain live cultures. Incorporating these products can help balance the skin’s flora and improve overall skin health. Also, consider dietary changes to support your skin microbiome from within—foods rich in fibre and probiotics can make a big difference!"

In: Regenerative aesthetics

“Regenerative aesthetics is an exciting trend that emphasises the use of ingredients like growth factors and peptides. These components accelerate the skin’s natural renewal process, promoting repair and rejuvenation", explains Swann. "As consumers become more proactive about their skincare, products that support long-term skin health will be in high demand. Seek out serums or treatments featuring growth factors and peptides. Incorporating these into your routine can enhance the effects of other skincare products, providing a more comprehensive approach to skin health."

Try this to get in on the trend: COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster ($30, down from $45 at Nudie Glow)

In: Ectoin

"Ectoin, an amino acid derivative, is emerging as a superstar ingredient in 2025", Swann reveals. "Known for its ability to strengthen the skin barrier and reduce water loss, ectoin helps maintain skin hydration and resilience. With climate change and environmental stressors impacting our skin, ectoin’s protective qualities are becoming increasingly sought after. Look for moisturisers or serums containing ectoin, especially if you live in a dry or polluted environment. Using products with this ingredient can help fortify your skin against external aggressors and maintain hydration throughout the day."

Try this to get in on the trend: Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Ectoin-Infused Cream ($90, down from $109 at Nudie Glow)

In: Preventative skin care

There is a significant shift towards preventative skin care over reactive repair solutions,” Swann notes. “In 2025, consumers will focus on preventing skin issues before they arise rather than trying to fix them afterward. This means investing in high-quality skincare products that promote long-term health, like sunscreens, antioxidants, and hydrating treatments. Establish a robust skincare routine that prioritises prevention. Incorporate broad-spectrum SPF into your daily regimen and use antioxidant-rich serums. Regular professional treatments can also maintain skin health—remember, prevention is always better than cure!"
