The makeup trends that'll liven up your look in 2025
New year, fresh face
From TikTok's boyfriend blush and blonzer trends, to the workout blush look, and our collective obsession with Moo Deng's pastel-hued flush — 2024 was undoubtedly the year of blush.
But what about the year ahead?
With 2025 just around the corner, our makeup collections and routines are begging for the kind of inspiration that'll get the new year started off right.
Like every year before, we'll inevitably spend the first few days of 2025 discovering new years eve glitter stuck to every inch of our bodies. But just because the sparkle of the festive season will have dimmed, doesn't mean we can't still have fun with our makeup.
If Pinterest's Predicts report is anything to go by, it looks like people are searching in earnest for moments of experimentation they can incorporate into their lives. BEAUTYcrew also had the opportunity to speak with celebrity makeup artist Ash K. Holm and content creator Daus Mendoza about their respective forecasts for the category.
Here, the beauty experts predict the exciting trends to look forward to in 2025.
Shimmer Shadows
"I definitely see shimmer shadows becoming a must-have," Mendoza tells BEAUTYcrew. "Shimmery eyeshadows are quickly becoming the 'it' thing, and I feel like they’ll be a big focus in everyone’s collections."
"The wet shimmer eyeshadows will be working overtime in 2025," Holm agrees. "Eyeshadows have evolved so much and now it’s becoming easier to bump up your eye look from day to night."
The celebrity makeup artist recommends looking to the pops of metallic shimmer in gold, silver, and bronze that popped up on the Spring/Summer 2025 runways for inspiration.
Summer Berry Blush & Balm
According to Holm, the monochromatic berry blush and balm combination will be everywhere in 2025.
"Berry shades for blush can create a soft, snatched cheek bone, while creating beautiful dimension on the skin," she explains.
Personally we love the vibrant flush of strawberry and raspberry-hued makeup for the warmer months, while we save the deeper shades for winter. Multipurpose tints, creams, liquids, and balms that can be used on the cheeks and lips are ideal for nailing the monochromatic, low fuss look too.
A Crystalline Complexion
"The Korean skincare ten step routine will continue to influence our makeup routine," Holm tells BEAUTYcrew. "Beautiful makeup application starts with a good skincare routine."
If a ten step skin care routine sounds like nightmare fuel to you, never fear, Holm says you can cut out unnecessary steps so long as your routine is effective — radiant, hydrated, and crystal clear skin doesn't just happen after all.
Once you've established an effective skin care routine, Mendoza says all you need are bright and radiant under eyes and a soft natural flush to finesse this trend.
"It’s such a timeless and flattering look—you can never go wrong with it," he explains.
The Dark Siren
Inspired by the maidens of the deep, the dark siren makeup trend is an off-shoot of the sea witch aesthetic that's become so popular on Pinterest. In fact, searches for dark siren makeup on the platform are up by 695 per cent. Exploring the term will surface kohl-lined lips, moody pastels, and shimmering, oil slick-inspired smokey eyeshadow looks. It's a little bit mystical, a little bit punk, and surprisingly wearable.
New Wave
The new wave aesthetic of the '80s has been reimagined by a cohort of Gen Z and young millennials on Pinterest. Gone is the geisha white face makeup, and the sunset of blush and eyeshadow. Here, the trend's bold use of colour has been redefined by a skin care-obsessed youth that has been educated on the importance of a flawless blend since birth. Whether it's a pop of periwinkle blue eyeshadow on the lids or bubble gum pink on the cheeks, this makeup is concentrated and diffused in all the right places, with expert precision.
