5 ways to wear nude eyeshadow

It’s like your lids, but better

While smoky eyes and universally flattering lilac eyeshadow have their place when it comes to complementing your peepers, we’ve noticed a slew of celebrities reaching for a much more laid-back approach, even for red carpet events. Enter tonal eyeshadow - a single colour that’s just one shade darker than your skin tone, applied all over the lid. The result is effortless, totally wearable and seriously cool (we’re dubbing it as “your eyelids, but better”). Best of all, this approach works with all skin tones; we’ve seen this worn on paler complexions like Ashley Olsen, right through to darker ones like Joan Smalls. Here are six ways to get in on the new nude eyeshadow trend.

1

Try it with mascara

Think nude eyeshadow will wash you out? Try Lily Aldridge’s method and pair the look with lashings of an all-in-one mascara, like CHANEL Dimensions De Chanel Mascara, to lengthen, curl and define your lashes.

2

Try it with shimmer

Hailey Baldwin shows us a more glamorous take on nude eyeshadow with a layer of shimmering gold eyeshadow. With something like Nude By Nature Shimmering Sand Loose Eyeshadow, it can add a nice sheen to your skin; just don’t forget to add a little to the inner corners of your eyes to brighten up the area.

3

Try it with a winged liner

To further add emphasis to your eyes, pair your nude shadow with a winged liner look over the top, as seen on Joan Smalls. You’re going to need a long-wearing formula, like Estée Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Liquid Eyeliner, that won’t budge, even when it’s layered over a powder eyeshadow.

4

Try it with a kohl liner

Karlie Kloss recently wore a warm-based light brown eyeshadow to accentuate her eyes and match her warm honey blonde hair colour. For those that are after a bit more definition, try lining both your top and bottom lash lines with a smudgy kohl pencil, like L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Le Khôl.

TOP TIP: For those with hooded eyelids, take your eyeshadow horizontally out further than the shape of your own eyelid so you can see the colour even with your eyes open.

5

Try it with a nude pencil

For a more pared-back way to wear nude eyeshadow, go with Ashley Olsen’s look. With a light brown eyeshadow stick, like Maybelline New York Master Drama Nude Eye Pencil, line your top lash line and just halfway across your bottom lash line to make your eyes look bigger.
