4 spring beauty trends you need to replicate IRL
As seen at New York Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week isn’t just about the clothes. Oh no. The runway also gives us a glimpse into a whole menu of hair and makeup looks we’re going to see absolutely *everywhere* in the coming season.
And after witnessing what the New York Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2019 shows had to offer, we’ve now got plenty of ideas on how to change up our looks as we roll into the warmer weather. On the makeup front, the shows have been full of sparkly, colourful and creative looks to get us back into the swing of things – and we’re more than a little bit excited.
These are our favourite (and most wearable) makeup looks from NYFW that are about to become the next big thing this spring. And boy, we can’t WAIT to break them out!
1 / Coloured mascara
Princess Diana brought it to the beauty table in the early ‘80s and it looks like coloured mascara is about to officially become a thing again. Ulla Johnson models took to the runway sporting vibrant pink mascara (please also note that pretty soft stained lip!) and we have to say, the unexpected pop of colour *made* their look. We’re totally into it because it’s a really easy way to switch-up your normal makeup and accentuate your eyes. We suggest trying Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Vinyl Couture in 06 Pin.
2 / ‘70s-inspired smoky eye
Catwalk queens like Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber and Joan Smalls kicked off Tom Ford’s Spring/Summer show with mesmerising ‘70s-inspired eye looks. The combination of muted browns and the touch of gold metallic hues added texture and depth to the overall makeup. To replicate a similar look, grab yourself the Tom Ford Color Quad in 01 Golden Mink and cover the entire lid with a gold hue. Then, blend a combination of amber and brown hues under the lash line, into the crease and onto the outer corner of the eye for a soft cat-eye wing.
3 / Glitter lips
Glitter lips are in and you can thank Jeremy Scott Spring/Summer 2019 for this. And hey, while it may not be the perfect everyday look, we say go for it on your next night out! It’s hands down the easiest way to amp-up your going-out makeup and what’s more, it’s easier than you may think. First, swipe on a thin layer of MAC’s Mixing Medium Eyeliner (a translucent gel that can be used with glitter for adhesion) on your lips. Then, add Liquid Dazzleshadow (also MAC) before popping your glitter of choice on top.
4 / Vibrant eyeshadow
If Rodarte’s Spring/Summer 2019 runway is anything to go by, vibrant, colourful eyeshadow colours are ALL the rage. Models wore a graphic pop of eyeshadow on the runway, teamed with bright pink blush and highlighted cheekbones. In an interview backstage with Elle US, Rodarte’s makeup artist James Kaliardos said he took inspo from Tate Modern’s Picasso 1932 exhibit, "It was so inspiring, and then Kate and Laura [Rodarte’s founders] and I met and we were talking about colorful eye shadows, and then simultaneously NARS re-launched their eye shadows with these colors and it all fell into place”. The three vibrant shades Kaliardos is referring to are NARS’s Douro (yellow), Domination (hot pink) and Baby Jane (turquoise blue) – while these guys aren’t available in Australia just yet, Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette in Electric is a close match! Did someone say dreamy? Did someone say dreamy?
