Who says your foundation can’t have skin benefits, too?
When it comes to the products in our beauty routines, historically a foundation is a foundation, and skin care is skin care. While one works to protect, care and hydrate with long-term benefits (skin care), the other is simply a superficial layer (makeup) that helps even out skin tone to create the ‘ideal’ complexion until some micellar water/oil cleanser/face wash gets involved.
Well, welcome to 2020, where these two worlds are now colliding in a very excellent way and we’re reaping a whole bunch of skin and makeup benefits from the one product.
So, what skin ingredients will you start seeing in foundation formulas? Think ones that are going to help keep your skin hydrated and protect it from environmental aggressors as you go about your daily business.
Revlon’s new PhotoReady Candid Glow™ Foundation (yep, she’s the sister to the OG PhotoReady Candid Foundation) is the latest skin care-inspired makeup base to hit our shores and it’s all about caring for your skin while giving your complexion a naturally dewy finish.
Just like its predecessor, it’s enriched with vitamin E, which offers a heap of antioxidant benefits, so it will work to protect your skin from the effects of pollution and help block blue light rays (both of which are known to speed up the ageing process). It’s also infused with prickly pear oil, which is going to help give your skin extra hydration and a lasting glow (and let’s not forget – skin that’s nourished is skin that looks brighter and healthier).
Also important to note is what’s not in this foundation, namely parabens, sulfates, phthalates, fragrance and synthetic dyes, which is good to know if those are common irritants for your skin or you’d prefer to use cleaner formulations.
And of course, we can’t talk about a foundation and NOT discuss the job it does as, well, a foundation.
First up, coverage. This guy is a winner if you’re into a foundation that leaves your skin looking like your skin, but with an even, glowy upgrade. The lightweight formula, available in nine shades, gives light coverage, but it’s got enough pigment in it to help blur imperfections for a more even base. It is easily buildable, so if you prefer more medium coverage than light, you can layer up without worrying about it pilling or streaking.
And as for the finish, as the name suggests, it’s all about giving you a natural, dewy glow. If your vibe is fresh, radiant skin that doesn’t look like you’re wearing much makeup, this hits the sweet spot.
