Shay Mitchell's red hair makes a stunning case for the copper hair trend
Shay Mitchell’s red hair is making us want to book a salon appointment ASAP. As the latest celebrity to join in on the copper trend, the usual brunette debuted her fiery new shade at multiple shows across Milan Fashion Week.
First spotted in a neon yellow outfit at Fendi, her hair was piled high in an updo with face-framing tendrils hanging loose. Celebrity hairstylist Ricky Mota was responsible for the style, using Unite Hair’s 7SECONDS Glossing Spray ($39.90 at salonwarehouse.com.au) to really amp up the shine.
Mitchell’s red colour looked vibrant as it caught the sun walking the Italian streets, but took a moody turn when she attended the Boss show in an all-black outfit.
Leaning into the versatility of red hair, Mitchell completed her trifecta of appearances with a half-up half-down slick top knot at Bally. This time, the colour entered a rich burgundy territory. Honestly, the power of light never ceases to amaze us.
While it’s usually blondes turning to red (remember Margot Robbie?!), Mitchell provides a stellar example of what dark hair can do. Less strawberry and more oxblood, the deeper red suits her skin tone and doesn’t look out of place next to her dark eyebrows and features.
But don’t be fooled if you have naturally dark hair like Mitchell — it’s still likely you would have to pre-lighten your mane to get the red to stand out. And to ensure it remains after a few washes, a boosting treatment or semi-permanent dye may be required for at-home upkeep.
