Shay Mitchell just dropped her everyday makeup routine

And we're living for her low-maintenance look

Shay Mitchell is great at a lot of things (acting, vlogging and making phenomenal TikToks for starters) but when it comes to her makeup, she’s not claiming to be any sort of pro.

“For all my makeup artist friends and professionals that are watching this, guys, don’t judge,” she caveats, laughing as she kicks off her daily makeup routine on IGTV. “This is not maybe the proper way to do things, this is just my way of how I do it.”

But hey, we’re all faking it ‘til we make it right alongside her, and we appreciate the honesty – though TBH we’ve never seen her DIY makeup look anything less than stunning anyway.

As for her strategies for success, Mitchell relies on a combo of neutral tones and natural light. “I like to keep it really minimal and [use just] a few things that make me feel a little bit better. This is super quick – it’s not for anything fancy, this is just my day-to-day routine; it’s how I get ready in 10 minutes,” she explains.

“I like to do my makeup in front of a window, because I feel like natural light is the best. Yes, it can be really harsh, but it also is very honest and then when you step outside, you’re not five hundred different shades all over your face and neck," she adds. Terrifying but true...

Concealer: Bounce Airbrush Liquid Whip Concealer

“I like to start with a little bit of concealer – that’s what I do instead of foundation. I definitely come in here [around my nose, upper lip and under my eyes to cover] all the red spots.”

Sponge: beautyblender® Original

“I [apply my concealer] with my little beautyblender, which has already been pre-moistened. I like to have it just a little bit damp so I’ll just throw it under the sink for a few seconds and then squeeze out the excess water [before applying product]."

Contour: Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Bronzer

“[Next I] go in with some contour. The one that I love is my Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate in [shade] 01.”

Blush: Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Blush

“I love this [Tom Ford] one; it’s a cream blush and it just adds a little bit of a hint [of colour]. I actually saw Doja Cat do her 'get ready with me' and she put blush all over her nose and her forehead, and I kind of enjoyed it, so I do copy that a little bit and put it over my nose a little bit more than I did [before].”

Eyeshadow: Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzer

“For my eyes I’m going to be using my powder bronzer go-to: Hoola [by Benefit]. I like using my bronzer as a base of my eyeshadow; I'll use a really fluffy brush and just [apply it to the lid] and go over my brow bone. I don’t like to use any crazy kind of colours on my eyes, especially during the day, so this is sort of that perfect neutral colour. On the bottom I’ll do the exact same [shade]. That to me just widens and opens up my eye a little bit."

Brow Pencil: Kelley Baker Brow Defining Pencil

“I like to fill [my brows] in a little bit [using pencil] – the one that I use is Kelley Baker in Medium Brown. I’m honestly not trying to make them look like twins; I just really want them to look related.”

Powder: Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder

“I put [a little bit of my translucent powder] into its lid; this is a Laura Mercier one – I like to just pat it under my eyes [using my beauty blender] so I don’t get any concealer crease. I [also take] translucent powder and brush it up [with a fluffy shadow brush over my brows once they're filled in and brushed up] – it just sets them a little bit more.”

Mascara: Buxom Lash Volumising Mascara

“Every time I [curl my lashes] I hear [my makeup artist] Ariel in the back of my head being like “three times” – you want to start off with the base of the eyelashes, and then you want to work up to kind of in the middle, and then do it at the top. [For mascara], I like a Buxom one [on top and bottom lashes].”
