Pixi is completely reinventing this skin care staple
And we can’t wait to get our hands on it
If you know your skin care, chances are you’ve heard of Pixi’s best-selling number, Glow Tonic. It’s an exfoliating toner that has become one of the most popular beauty products on ASOS and pretty much revolutionised the toner game. And it seems Pixi is about to shake things up again with another gem: Pixi Retinol Tonic.
Yep, you read it correctly - a retinol tonic. Never heard of a retinol tonic? Well, it’s now a thing. It promises to not only deliver all the benefits of your conventional retinol (goodbye lines and wrinkles), but also provide the added goodness of a hydrating toner (hello, supple skin). Sounds like a pretty good deal to us!
Retinol can sound scary since it’s rather powerful and if used incorrectly (such as applying too much too fast), dryness, redness and irritation may occur. However, with Pixi Retinol Tonic, the retinol inside comes encapsulated, meaning it slowly releases its skin-plumping goodness over time rather than all at once (read: less chance of irritation).
While other retinol formulas may dry out the skin, in the Pixi Retinol Tonic the retinol comes paired with soothing jasmine flower extract and hydrating glycerin, which work to counteract that drying effect and helps keep the skin balanced.
According to a cosmetic chemist, Ginger King, who was interviewed by Allure, the formula has a pretty low dosage of retinol, too, so it’s perfectly gentle on the skin and a great option for those who haven’t dipped their toes in the retinol game before (get amongst it!). It’s also a great two-in-one solution for those of you who tend to forget the whole toner/retinol step (guilty!).
While we’re still clutching our wallets and waiting to hear when this little guy will hit Australia, it’s already on shelves in the US (lucky buggers) – so we recommend hitting up your American pals and getting them to send you across a Pixi care package – ASAP.
