9 celeb-approved face masks for a red carpet glow
With their proximity to the best makeup artists, facialists, and hair stylists working today, celebrities have a unique expertise when it comes to the subject of beauty.
They also sport credentials as tenured red carpet goers. In other words they know how to look good on camera.
Although one could credit their moisturisers and foundations as the culprits behind their flawless faces, these seasoned professionals are far too thoughtful to leave the fate of their appearance up to their glam team.
The real secret to their year-round glow is their commitment to regularly applying face masks — and these are the ones they're using.
Selena Gomez: Sephora Collection Cucumber Eye Mask
Selena Gomez knows her way around makeup; heck the woman has her own beauty brand for crying out loud. But it turns out the pop star also possesses a wealth of skin care knowledge. Gomez shared her morning routine with Vogue, which features a rather inexpensive set of eye masks that her little sister recommended. "She’s more of the beauty guru now," explained Gomez as she applied Sephora Collection's Cucumber Eye Mask ($8 from Sephora) to her under eyes to help get rid of any inflammation.
Jenna Ortega: Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay
The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice actress told Elle in 2022 that she swears by the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay ($26.90 from Amazon Australia). "About once a week, I’ll do a face mask with Aztec clay and apple cider vinegar," she explained. But it's not the first time Ortega's mentioned the purifying face mask in an interview. "It’s super strong, so I use it if I have aggressive breakouts," she told Hello Giggles in 2021.
Sydney Sweeney: 111SKIN Sub Zero De-Puffing Eye Mask
"[111SKIN's Sub Zero De-Puffing Eye Masks] ($168 from MECCA) are everything for me," Sweeney told GQ. "I travel with them, I wear them before I go to work, before carpets. I try to put eye patches on every morning just to wake myself up. These have become my favourite – I used to sting from eye patches, and this one just nourishes me the most. It’s this cool jelly material and it’s blue, which is my favourite colour."
Margot Robbie: 111SKIN Celestial Black Diamond Lifting & Firming Face Mask
According to a 2016 interview with Vogue UK, Robbie is obsessed with 111SKIN's face masks ($216.90 from FWRD), after her makeup artist Pati Dubroff started prepping her skin with them prior to applying her makeup. "They have these sheet masks, they’re made out of a jelly sort of stuff and the serum they’re soaked in is so good," she explained. "So when we’re getting ready for an event she’ll put one of those on while she’s doing my hair."
Niall Horan: Jaxon Lane Bro Mask Cooling Eye Gels
"Eye masks are [something] that I always do just to give the eyes a little plump," Horan told Vogue as he applied a set of Jaxon Lane Bro Mask Cooling Eye Gels ($49 from Noah). "See, look at all these facialist words I’m using! I wear them in the car sometimes and on flights."
Emma Roberts: SK-II Facial Treatment Mask
"If I'm doing a mask, I'm really into the SK-II Sheet Masks ($159 from David Jones)," Roberts dished in an interview with Byrdie in 2023. "But I have to do them at night before bed because I did one in the morning once, and my son was so scared seeing me in the mask. So that's a solo, after-the-baby-goes-to-bed activity."
Paris Hilton: Omnilux Contour LED Mask
Hilton loves LED treatments so much that she has a clinical-grade Omnilux machine in her at-home sliving spa, as well, as an Omnilux Contour LED Mask ($490 from Endota) to wear around the house. "I do 10 minutes in the morning, and then 10 minutes at night, and I’ve noticed such a difference. My skin is glowing," she raved to Marie Claire.
Lily Collins: Lancôme Advanced Genifique Hydro Gel Melting Mask
"I've worked with Lancôme for like ten years now and I love their Génifique products. I have Génifique masks shipped in by the box because I use them every day," Collins shared in an interview with Refinery29. "They help keep moisture locked in when I'm applying makeup every day."
Camila Mendes: Loops Weekly Reset Face Mask
"Sometimes my pores are clogged and I need some gentle exfoliation, or my skin is super irritated and my barrier needs to be supported, or I just want a little extra glow before doing my makeup for a night out. Whatever the occasion, LOOPS have a mask that can meet me there," Mendes, the brand's Creative Director, told MECCA. "Sometimes I use a LOOPS mask ($51.13 from Revolve) right after the exfoliant if it’s a soothing, reparative mask."
