The product

In a world where innovators are dreaming up new sustainable, natural and environmentally-friendly beauty options every day, it’s reassuring that caring for the planet doesn’t have to break the bank.

Case and point? The NIVEA WonderBAR range, which couples a minimum of 99 per cent certified natural ingredients with a 100 per cent vegan and 100 per cent microplastics free biodegradable formula. Oh, and did we mention it also has 60 per cent less water than a typical cleanser and is 97.6 per cent plastic free with recyclable packaging? Yeah, they thought of everything.

Here’s what our panel of Review Crew® testers had to say about the Nivea WonderBAR Hydrating, Nivea WonderBAR Blackhead scrub, Nivea WonderBAR Anti Pimple, and Nivea WonderBAR Sensitive cleansing bars.

The panel

Beauty Crew sent the NIVEA WonderBAR range to a panel of women aged between 18 and 24 with an interest in natural and environmentally-friendly beauty, and a sustainability mindset. REVIEWcrew® members with normal or normal to combination skin types received either the Nivea WonderBAR Hydrating, Nivea WonderBAR Blackhead scrub or Nivea WonderBAR Anti Pimple, while those with normal to sensitive skin received Nivea WonderBAR Sensitive.

The lowdown

Here’s what the Review Crew® loved about the NIVEA WonderBAR Range.

NIVEA WonderBAR Blackhead Scrub: Those of our members with persistent blackheads and pimples said they loved how thoroughly they were able to cleanse their skin, eliminating excess oil, sebum, dirt and product build-up. However, some members with drier skin said they would have opted for one of the more hydrating formulations in the range instead, as it left their skin feeling a little too squeaky clean for their liking.

NIVEA WonderBAR Hydrating: Our members found that the hydrating formula was the perfect pick for normal to combination skin types, delivering an effective daily cleanse that didn’t strip, dry or promote redness post-cleanse. Our reviewers also really like the sustainable aspect of the product.

NIVEA WonderBAR Sensitive: The preferred selection for those of our members with sensitive and dry skin types, this pick helped our members embrace a sustainable-friendly cleansing routine without stripping their skin or further irritating their skin. In fact, a number of our members noted a reduction in redness and particularly angry pimples as a result of introducing the WonderBAR to their routine.

NIVEA WonderBAR Anti Pimple Scrub: When it comes to pimple-clearing cleansers, a number of our reviewers are understandably skeptical. But many were soon pleasantly surprised by the formula’s efficacy, saying that they noticed a distinct reduction in pimples and potential breakouts in as little as two weeks.

“Both myself and my partner tried out this NIVEA WonderBAR Blackhead Scrub and LET ME TELL YOU!! Both of our skin LOOOOVED this product! When using, it does leave a slight cooling/tingling sensation but it doesn't burn or irritate the skin. I have a bad blackhead and acne problem and this product really helped. My partner also enjoyed using it, and it is a product that I still keep in my shower and we use daily.”

[NIVEA WonderBAR Hydrating is] one of a kind with so many amazing factors . The fact it’s a facial wash within a bar is so handy and feels a lot quicker than ordinary bottles. When using this product it has an amazing subtle smell and the product is so gentle but effective on my skin leaving it feeling so soft the best it’s ever felt. One of my favourite things about this is the packaging. I love that nivea has decided on a very eco-friendly idea with packaging and it’s good to see that they are heading in the right direction.”

“IN LOVE WITH [NIVEA WonderBAR Sensitive]! I was struggling to find a cleanser that would suit my sensitive skin. After the first day of using this soap as well as cutting out recently learnt products that were causing my skin to react, I used this bar as well as tea tree and aloe vera to cater to my acne which has since then (3 days) cleared up the irritation. This product has been the only product I’ve found to really change the appearance in my skin immediately and overall. After harsh products inflamed my skin and made me slowly lose my self esteem I now repaired it with the soap and I mean this sincerely, get this product if you have acne and sensitive skin.”

“I was quite skeptical about using a bar on my face as I had thought it would be too harsh on my skin but I was wrong! [NIVEA WonderBAR Anti Pimple Scrub] actually felt lovely and luxe to use and I really saw an improvement in the redness and acne on my skin. I only used it on areas where I had breakouts and saw some notable improvement within a couple of days which is of course what you want from an anti acne product! I personally didn’t love the smell of the product which lost it a star from me but that is of course personal preference. Would recommend this product to anyone keen to try something new!”
