FYI: National Lipstick Day is nearly here
If you're anything like us, your outfit isn't complete until you have something on your lips. Are we beauty-lovers through and through? Absolutely. But as the great Pat McGrath once said, “there are endless ways to enhance beauty. You never know when you will find your perfect lipstick unless you keep experimenting” and we couldn’t agree more.
So, this Monday 29th July it's time to pucker up to find your best long-lasting lipstick (or heck even a liquid lipstick) formula to help transform your pout to one that looks like Sabrina Carpenter's.
National Lipstick Day
A day dedicated to lipstick is incredible. As beauty-lovers we're sure we can all agree that at any given moment there's at least three lip products floating around the bottom of our bags.
And to celebrate the lip-loving day, many brands are giving you discounted access to their ranges (new Taylor Swift-inspired red lipstick, anyone?). So, what are these special deals?
Well, Revlon has yet again joined forces with Chemist Warehouse and the Look Good Feel Better organisation to help raise money for women, men and teens going through cancer treatment. Having helped over 170 000 people, Revlon is donating $2 of every single Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick sold between now and the 7th of August.
And while not all deals come with such an incredible backstory, they are offering decent discounts. Bobbi Brown is dishing out 20 per cent off the entire lip range, M.A.C are giving away whole lipsticks and even Adore Beauty is joining in on the fun offering a 5 piece lip kit when you spend over $109.
So, let's check out the pout-perfecting picks that you can pick up this National Lipstick Day...
Lipsticks to add to cart this National Lipstick Day
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Wild Saffron
From $23.99 at Chemist Warehouse
Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks hold a major spot in our hearts as the first lipsticks we ever stole from our mums (sorry mum). The nourishing, breathable formula still stacks up today against the much exxier competition. Our favourite thing however, is that Revlon in partnership with Chemist Warehouse donate $2 out of every single Super Lustrous Lipstick sale to the cancer-supporting Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) initiative. So, when you pick up a tube you know you're doing good (and looking cute).
Key features:
- Supports the LGFB initiative
- Breathable formula
- Vitamin E-rich
Available at:
- $16.69 (usually $23.99) from Chemist Warehouse
M.A.C Amplified Creme Lipstick / MAC40 Lipstick Bringbacks in 'Double Shot'
From $44 at M.A.C Cosmetics
M.A.C bullet lipsticks have a major hold over us so when we see that they're bringing out a limited edition range of iconic discontinued best-selling shades we jump a the change to try them again — without the um, drying formulas. This beautiful brown, creamy shade is heading straight to our cart, along with a free M.A.C lipstick. Yep, pick one of three nude lipstick choices when you purchase anything on M.A.C for National Lipstick Day.
Key features:
- Limited edition
- A glimpse at an old-school colour
- Lasts up to 8 hours
Available at:
- $44 from M.A.C Cosmetics
Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-Infused Gloss in 'New Romantic'
From $58 at Bobbi Brown
Is this technically a 'lipstick', no, definitely not. But with 20 per cent off their entire lip range we'd be hard-pressed not to pick up a gloss while we were there. But this is no ordinary gloss okay? It's enriched with eight botanical oils that help to keep your pout lusciously hydrated while providing a sheer cover of cute colour. Oh and you're not going to get that uncomfortable tacky lip gloss feel either with this formula.
Key features:
- Non-sticky feel
- Enriched with botanical oils
- Hydrating sheer formula
Available at:
- $46.40 (usually $58) from Bobbi Brown
Australis Lipstick Refill Bullet (and Cases) in 'Showstopper'
From $14.95 at Priceline
What goes together like Kendall and Gigi? Unbelievably hydrating (refillable) lipsticks and their ultra-cute cases. Yep, it's custom baby. Pick from your choice of three cute cases and fill (and refill) with a decent range of gorgeous hyaluronic acid and jojoba oil infused lipsticks. The best part? You can even pick between different finishes to get your perfect pout.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Ultra-Comfort Transfer-Proof Lipstick
From $40 at Sephora
Look, don't get us wrong, we also have 2016 trauma surrounding the matte liquid lipstick phase (we can feel our dry lips as we speak). But we can assure you, this nourishing, antioxidant-rich formula is nothing like those ones. With a totally transfer-proof design you can kiss as many frogs as you'd like (or chow down into a burger) without losing any of the glorious pigment. Oh and if you're as obsessed with Huda Kattan as we are, you'll be delighted to know she's started her very own (incredibly insightful) podcast.
Key features:
- Smudge and transfer-proof
- Antioxidant-rich moisturising formula
- Suede-matte finish
Available at:
- $40 from Sephora
When is national lipstick day?
We're sure by now you've realised, but ICYMI national lipstick day is Monday 29th July 2024. The glorious day reminds as to 'wear our best colour' and embrace our makeup-loving selves as we are.
How to pick the right lipstick shade for you
Okay, we're happy to admit it, we've definitely bought the wrong shade of lipstick before. It happens, but we're here to help combat wasted cash and lipsticks. When picking a shade, be mindful of your undertones and skin tone. If you've got cool undertones, cooler toned lipstick will look best on you and vice versa for warmer, with neutral getting the best of both worlds. But of course, heading in and taking a swipe of the tester (on your hand please people) will help decide if it's really going to suit you best.
