Want to workout like Lizzo? This is the singer's fitness routine

The body that five months of weight training built

Lizzo has been baffling fans with her body transformation over the past few months.

But despite dealing with allegations that she's jumped on the Ozempic trend like every other celebrity in Hollywood right now, the singer insists it's all just down to hard work and healthy choices.

In a recent Instagram video, Lizzo joked: "When you finally get Ozempic allegations after five months of weight training and calorie deficit."

But it got us wondering, what is it Lizzo is doing exactly? So we trolled the Internet for the exact diet and exercise responsible for the singer's toned, healthy and radiant new look. This is what we found...

What is Lizzo's workout routine?

Luckily, Lizzo has been more than happy to give a sneak peek of her workouts with personal trainer, Corey Calliet, via her various social media accounts.

"I accept my body as it is today and I accept my body will change," Lizzo shared via Instagram. "I love my body through all its stages because acceptance is a form of self love."

In the Instagram video in question the singer can be seen sweating it out in the gym while she does circuit training.

During her workout Lizzo uses a number of weight machines, weighted balls, and weighted dumb bells to perform exercises such as chest presses, lateral and front arm raises, bicep curls, and tricep extensions, all whilst simultaneously lunging and squatting.

"I do circuits. So I do three rounds of three to four different exercises about 12 to 15 times," she explained in another Instagram post.

In an Instagram post from August, Lizzo shared some encouraging advice for her fans who were following her along her fitness journey.

"If you’re reading this… remember you can do ANYTHING you put your mind to! Stay focused, you got this," she told fans.

In the accompanying video, Lizzo is once again using a variety of weighted machines during her workout, which leads us to believe that her trainer has been keeping the singer's workouts simple to ensure consistency during her strength training sessions.

We also think it's this simplicity and a focus on mastering technique in the gym that has been the key to Lizzo maintaining her fitness regimen.

Show of hands — who's thrown themselves into a challenging workout routine only to give up on it after a few weeks of struggle? It's a common issue. But Lizzo shows that keeping things simple and consistency is truly the key to maintaining a beneficial exercise regimen.

"I’ve been methodical, losing weight very slowly," Lizzo told The New York Times earlier this year. "Anyone who’s on a natural weight-loss journey knows, losing weight is actually the slowest thing in the world and you don’t really notice it until you notice it. Also the scale’s not really moving. But anyway, that doesn’t matter. I’m super proud of my current lifestyle."

Besides weight training, Lizzo likes to get cardio into her daily routine with a skipping rope, so even when she's on holiday the singer likes to pack a jump rope in her suitcase.

She's shared her journey with jump rope on TikTok, recording herself skipping rope in various locations to show just how easy it can be to incorporate the workout into a busy schedule.

She also rates more gentle forms of exercise such as walking and Pilates, which she first started practising in 2023 after sustaining a back injury.

"I’m taking the time every day to put some love into my body," she told The New York Times earlier this year. "There is never a day when I regret taking a walk or doing some Pilates."

"Because my Pilates regimen is pretty intense, I don't go crazy on the treadmill. I just walk and I would actually prefer to walk outside, but you know. I like to walk because any stress, any anxiety, any tension, any anger that I've had in my body, I kind of forget about it by the time I'm done walking," she shared in a TikTok video.

What is Lizzo's diet?

Lizzo's on a calorie deficit diet, which means that she consumes less calories than she burns in her workouts. Because of this she tries to make healthy choices, whilst steering clear of calorie-dense food items.

For example, first thing in the morning she'll make a simple smoothie before her workouts that contains a blend of cocoa energy powder, almond milk, banana and ice.

"My biggest flex is I am now an almond milk girlie. Though it tastes like a**, it has less calories," she shared via TikTok.

The singer is also a vegan and tries to maintain a plant based diet, which she believes makes her feel better on a daily basis.

"Health is something I prioritize, wherever that leads me physically. Like veganism, people were like, ‘You’re a vegan? What, are you deep frying the lettuce?’ I’m not a vegan to lose weight, I just feel better when I eat plants," she told Vanity Fair.

"But just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, it changes again," she admitted to the publication. "I eat when I’m stressed out, sometimes to the point where I didn’t realize how much I ate. Anything can be harmful, but it comforts me in a way."

"It’s mixing this beautiful thing that’s food—and nourishing ourselves with it, but it’s the stress that’s the bad thing, not the 20 pounds," she continued. "I feel very lucky because I don’t feel that weight gain is bad anymore. Nor is weight loss—it’s neutral. And food is fun. I love eating, and I have a chef now, and I’m not thinking about it. I had a brownie last night."

Lizzo isn't the only celeb who believes in the holistic benefits of working out. Taylor Hill swears her workout routine transformed her mental health.

Briar Clark got her start in the media industry in 2017, as an intern for Marie Claire and InStyle. Since then, her keen interest in fashion and beauty has landed her gigs as a Digital Content Producer and Beauty Editor with titles like Girlfriend, Refinery29, BEAUTYcrew and beautyheaven. She loves the way seemingly innocuous topics like skin care and style have the ability to put a smile on people’s faces or make them think about themselves a little differently. A big believer in self love and experimentation, Briar has made a point of becoming the Australian beauty industry’s unofficial guinea pig for unusual treatments and daring hair trends. When she’s not testing out the latest beauty launches, Briar is big on broadening her horizons, mostly in the form of food but she’s also partial to travelling to new destinations both near and far (and of course, allocating an extra bag to bring their best beauty offerings home with her).
