Model Jasmine Tookes has had a big week; not only did she announce the news of her engagement to Juan David Borrero, she also blessed us with something equally as exciting... Her entire makeup routine, from start to finish.
The IGTV revealed all of Tookes' favourite products and beauty secrets, including her views on drugstore makeup and the brands she believes are the leaders in foundations for darker skin; citing Laura Mercier, MAC, Hourglass, Dior, NARS and Estee Lauder as a few of her faves.
Tookes tends to favour a natural makeup look and admits she is “obsessed with browns and warm tones” for makeup you can wear “every day, whether it's simple or going out on a date”...
Here's a breakdown of her go-to makeup routine:
Step 1: Foundation
Tookes regularly uses the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Natural Skin Perfector ($75 at MECCA), and likes to blend with her Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Brush ($74 at MECCA ) to “get a nice even, really light base”.
Step 2: Concealer
Named as her “all time favourite concealer”, Tookes then uses MAC Cosmetics' Studio Fix Conceal and Correct Palette ($72 at maccosmetics.com.au to conceal under her eyes, chin and forehead.
Using a palette allows her to find the “perfect tone for dark skin” and she also praises the product for giving “such a nice glow,” adding that she feels like, "drugstore makeup still hasn't really mastered great foundation and concealers for dark skin”.
Step 3: Setting Powder
In one of our favourite tricks from Tookes’ beauty tutorial, the Victoria’s Secret Angel introduces us to eyebrow ‘setting’.
The 29-year-old uses the Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder ($74 at MECCA) with a dual-ended powder brush to sets her T-zone, followed closely by her brows. “My eyebrows always get oily so I always put powder there,” she explained. “In photos, if your eyebrows are disappearing, put on some powder”.
Step 4: Bronzer
For a “nice luminous glow”, Tookes layers the Hourglass Radiant Bronze Light ($83 at MECCA) on her cheekbones, followed by a dusting of the Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder ($69 at bobbibrown.com.au) on her cheekbones, forehead, under the nose and under the chin for a “nice jawline”. She also uses it to contour her nose and inner corners of her eyes with a small fluffy brush.
Step 5: Eyes
Using the same Bobbi Brown bronzer, Tookes buffs this colour into her eyelids to create a natural contour. “I press it into the beginning of my brow,” she said. “It looks much more lifted and sculpted”.
She then squeezes the brush to create a thinner and more precise line and runs the colour under her eyes.
Next, she used Tarte's Tartelette Toasted palette ($60 at Sephora) mixing two shades ‘cozy’ and ‘flame’ under her eyes and working it into her crease.
She then finished her eyes with the Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara ($46 at MECCA) which Tookes said is “made literally to look like you have falsies on”.
Step 6: Blush & Highlight
Tookes likes to apply her blush “a little higher on my cheekbones to really lift by face”, using the Hourglass Ambient At Night Blush ($64 at MECCA). She also dabs it across her nose for the “sunburn trick” and brings a little bit up into the crease of her eye.
Although “not the biggest fan of highlighter” traditionally, Tookes admits she’s recently found one she loves: Hourglass Highlight Bronze Flash ($67, at MECCA), which she dabs onto her cheekbones, across the bridge of her nose and under the brows.
Step 7: Brows
Tookes’ eyebrows are microbladed but she still likes to “fill in bits”. Using the Benefit Precisely My Brow ($45, available at Sephora), “I do little strokes and then brush them out”.
Step 8: Lips
For her last and “favourite step”, Tookes uses MAC Cosmetics' Studio Fix Conceal and Correct Palette’s darkest tone to create a lip contour over her cupid's bow and around the top lip. “My bottom lip is a different colour to my top lip so I like to even that out,” she said.
She then uses the Maybelline sensational shaping liner ($9.76 at Priceline)to add extra definition; “when I don’t have lip liner on, I find my lip can disappear into my skin because they are very close in colour”.
To fill in her pout, Tookes swiped on a lip colour that has since been discontinued, which is a damn shame as she described it as the “most perfect nude for darker skin”. The discontinued product in question was from the Zoe Kravitz x YSL Rouge Pur Couture. For a similar alternative, we recommend Pat McGrath Labs MatteTrance Lipstick in the shade Venus In Furs ($69 at Sephora).
