Copy Kate Hudson’s sultry red carpet look
Kate Hudson is a woman of many talents. Not only does she run her own fitness label (Fabletics) author inspirational self-help novels, and find the time to be a famous actress while mothering two boys, it seems as though she’s found a way to pull off a look that focuses on both her eyes and lips.
Showing up on the red carpet for her latest film, Kung Foo Panda 3, Hudson paired her wavy bob (she’s only recently joined the short hair club) with shimmery lilac eyes and big lashes, and a bold plum pout.
So how has she defied the laws of beauty by going colourful on both? For starters, she she used shades within the same colour family, and she kept wash on her eyes soft and subtle.
Here’s how you can recreate the look yourself.
1
Create a radiant base
Because you’re using quite a bit of colour in this look, stick to a foundation that offers a fresh, radiant finish.
Lancôme Miracle Cushion Compact, one of the international winner’s of this year’s marie Claire Prix D’Excellence La Beauté awards, can be applied to leave either a sheer glowing finish, or layered for more medium coverage that still feels lightweight and looks fresh.
2
Fill in your brows
An essential step to any makeup look, filling in your brows can help give your makeup look more definition and frame your face.
Pick a brow shade that matches the colour of your brow hair (or use a universal shade like It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil) and use light, feathery strokes to fill in any sparse areas and enhance the shape that you have.
3
Apply a soft wash of shadow
Use a shimmery metallic eyeshadow, like Ciate London Skinny Shadow Stick in Cloud 9, and apply over your entire lid. For extra oomph, use your shadow pencil to apply the colour to your bottom lash line.
4
Apply false lashes
When picking your false lash style, pick one that will give a softer finish, as the heavier the lashes, the heavier the overall result of the makeup look. More natural-looking lashes, like Artémes in Lost Innocence, will help balance out your plum lip and lilac eyes.
Once your lashes have been applied to your top lash line, use your mascara to adhere the false lashes to your real ones.
5
Add some warmth to your cheeks
Use either a matte bronzer or a terracotta blush (like Urban Decay Afterglow Powder Blush in Indecent) under your cheekbones, around the sides of your forehead and down your jawbone to give your complexion a sun-kissed finish.
6
Highlight your cheekbones
Using a soft powder brush or a flat fan brush, lightly dust an illuminator (like MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle) over your cheekbones, on your temples and down the bridge of your nose.
7
Finish with your bold lip
Pick your product depending on the finish you’d like. If you’d prefer something more velvety, use a plum matte lipstick like Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Jam On It, but if a shine is what you’re after, try a plum gloss, like Gilded Cage Seductive Lipgloss in Seductive Plum.
