VIDEO: 3 steps to nailing your lip look
Plus, tips for creating the perfect nude and red
We all know that no matter the makeup look you’re trying to create, getting your lips right is an essential step. Watch on as Beauty Crew’s Editor Carli Alman and Beauty Editor Iantha Yu share their three tips on nailing your lip look, as well as giving you some pointers on both a red and nude finish.
1
Prep your lips
Whatever shade you’re applying, you’ll want to create a smooth canvas so that the pigment adheres for longer and you’re left with a flawless finish. Exfoliate your lips to slough away dead skin and leave your lips ready for colour.
You can go DIY as Carli does and create a nourishing lip scrub made from sugar and lip balm, or you can try Iantha’s quick trick of using a face wipe to gently wipe your lips.
2
Line for definition
For Carli’s red lip look, she’s used the Rimmel London Exaggerate Full Colour Liner in Red Diva to line the exact edges of her lips. This helps to not only give the finished look a nice crisp edge, but also acts as a guide for where to fill in for the lipstick step.
To create the illusion of fuller lips, you can use Iantha’s lining trick and use a nude lip liner (she used Rimmel London Exaggerate Full Colour Liner in Addiction) to draw just above your cupid’s bow and just below the middle of your bottom lip. Just be careful to not take the pencil too far up or down.
3
Apply your lipstick
For a bold lip look like the one Carli has created using Rimmel London The Only 1 in Revolution Red, you can apply your lipstick straight from the bullet, or if you need a bit more control, use a lip brush to apply the pigment.
And to copy Iantha’s lived-in, ‘your lips but better’ finish, created using The Only 1 in Naughty Nude, gently dab some of the colour onto your finger, and then gently press the colour into your lips for a stained effect.
