The beginner's guide to a polished blow-dry

Recreate the style that suits everyone

While some are more in favour of the Kate Middleton-esque bouncy blow-dry, there are some who prefer a natural, straighter polished blow-dry. As a style that suits both long hair and medium hair, it's worth leanring how to nail the sophisticated style, so if it's not part of your hairstyling repertoire, here's an easy step-by-step guide to getting it right.

1

Add a touch of volume

While your hair is wet, use a tail-comb to create a centre part. Then rough-dry your hair and work a volumising cream or mousse through mid-lengths to ends on dry hair.

Blow-dry your hair

Create small horizontal sections, and start blow-drying from the bottom layer. To get that polished finish, use a round brush to blow-dry your strands straight. This technique will help seal your hair cuticles and boost shine.

TOP TIP: For a really sleek finish, point your hairdryer nozzle down as you blow-dry

3

Add some curl

To give your ends a soft wave, hold a curling wand vertically and wrap just a small section of hair around the tong. Once your curls have cooled down, brush them out so it's a more subtle finish.

Spray for hold

Once you've completed your blow-dry, let your hair cool and use a flexible and light-hold hairspray to seal the style. If you've got a few fly-aways at your roots, spray your hairspray in the palm of your hand, and gently run it over to smooth them down.
