The products Gigi Hadid's hair stylist used to create Marilyn Monroe pin curls for the Met
"We wanted something classic and feminine to go with the Sleeping Beauty theme"
Gigi Hadid is one of the few celebrities who always manages to finely walk the line between traditional glamour and the avant garde at the Met Gala, and this year is of no exception.
The model wore a Thom Browne gown that took over 13,500 hours to construct and paired classic details like an off the shoulder corset bodice with three dimensional floral elements and an exaggerated hip silhouette.
As for her hair and makeup, the 29 year old was inspired by the old Hollywood glamour of film stars Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly.
In fact, Hadid's hairstylist, Laura Polko, dished that it was Monroe's iconic pin curls that gave the hair expert a jumping off point for the freshly feminine and manicured look.
"This look was inspired by Marilyn Monroe," she explained. "We wanted something classic and feminine to go with the Sleeping Beauty theme."
However, the hairstylist used a myriad of modern products and techniques to achieve the vintage-inspired hairstyle, all of which you can shop right here in Australia.

"First, I prepped Gigi’s hair with Joico Defy Damage Protective Shampoo ($39.95 from Adore Beauty) and [Joico] KBOND20 Power Masque ($64.95 from Oz Hair + Beauty)," Polko explained.
Then, Polko created density and volume using the Joico JoiWhip Firm Hold Design Foam ($27.99 from Oz Hair + Beauty), enhancing the model's hair texture and adding lift at the root using the Joico Body Shake Texturising Finisher ($25.95 from Beautopia). She then used a small round brush to blow dry, pinning the curls at the back of the model's head to hold the curls in place.
As for the front of the hair, Polko created a deep left side part, pinning hot rollers into Hadid's hair "down and away from the face". She also used hot rollers on the base of the hair to enhance volume, which she then set with the Joico Power Spray Fast Dry Finishing Spray ($27.99 from Oz Hair + Beauty).
After the hair had cooled, Polko took down the rollers and tonged the hair using a one-inch curling iron to add definition through the lengths of the hair. She pin-curled the hairline to create an s-wave, directing the hair towards the face on the left hand side of Hadid's head, away from the face on the right, and for maximum volume, she pin-curled the front and top of the hair forwards.
To finish, Polko spritzed the style with the Joico FLIP TURN Volumising Hairspray ($27.99 from Oz Hair + Beauty). She let the pin curls cool before taking them down, brushed them through and set the style with her hands, and lacquered the hair in place with one final misting of hairspray.
