The expert edit: Multi-masking matches for tackling different skin woes

Tailored favourites from those in the know…

Editor / July 11 2022

It’s no secret that everyone’s skin is different. And even parts of our own skin can be different from one another.

So when it comes to treating our faces to a weekly masking sesh, combing the powers of a few formulas can create one hell of a glow-getting combo.

And while multi-masking may sound complicated, it really doesn’t have to be. Whether you apply your masks to different sections at the same time or follow one with another, how you work it, is up to you.

No idea where to start? We asked our expert panel to share the masking power couples they’ve come to love…

LUSH Mask of Magnaminty & The Face Shop Real Nature Sheet Mask

"My ultimate masking combo has to be LUSH's Mask of Magnaminty and The Face Shop's Real Nature sheet masks. I use Magnaminty first and leave it on for about 25 mins  I love this as a first step because it's quite nourishing, exfoliates the skin, and also calms my acne. After I wash this off, I like to follow up with one of the Real Nature sheet masks  they are super hydrating and are extremely inexpensive. However, sometimes when I'm short on time and need the extra loving, I apply Magnaminty and put the sheet mask straight on top."

Patchology Get Dewy With It Mega Moisture Sheet Mask & The Body Shop Seaweed Balance Sheet Mask

"Firstly, I’d like to caveat that yes, snipping up sheet masks does in fact make me a crafty queen. Despite being dehydrated all over, I like applying slightly different moisture masks for different areas. My cheeks and chin get extra dry (and so need the pure dew of Patchology) while my forehead calls for the kind of mattifying and moisturising mask that offers results that won’t just read as an oily T-zone (thank you, The Body Shop). But because the leftovers are obviously far too precious to waste, I chop them into smaller pieces and save them for future spot-treating within their pegged-up packaging."

Caudalie Vinoperfect Glycolic Peel Mask & Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Lifting Mask

"One of my go-to combos for smooth, radiant skin is a mix of Caudalie’s Glycolic Peel Mask and Tatcha’s Luminous Deep Hydration Sheet Mask. It works best when the peel is applied first then the sheet mask after. The peel only takes 10 minutes and helps to smooth out texture and tighten your pores. The glycolic acid and clay can leave the skin quite thirsty, so I combine it with my favourite sheet mask from Tatcha to boost the hydration back. The sheet mask gives the most beautiful glow, especially when the skin has been prepped properly."

Tula Beauty Sleep Overnight Repair Treatment & Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

"I’m a big fan of sleep masks. The mindlessness of slathering on a rich consistency and falling into bed at the end of a long day is a truly luxurious indulgence that I just can’t get over. I like to layer the TULA Beauty Sleep Overnight Repair Treatment with a top coat of the LANEIGE Water Sleeping Mask. I love using these particular masks in unison because their respective formulas complement one another quite nicely. When I wake up in the morning my skin always looks glowy, plump and youthful despite how many hours I’ve actually gotten. Work smarter, not harder y’know?"

fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask & Youth To The People Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask

No matter the season, my skin is as dry as the desert. But that’s not all; it also throws in an oily T-zone and is very moody if I don’t approach with caution. So, to keep the peace, I usually paint on fresh’s Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask down the centre of my face for a deep cleanse. And in the remaining areas, I slap on Youth To The People’s Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask for a boost of hydration. If I’m feeling fun, I’ll also swipe on Laniege’s Lip Sleeping Mask (in ‘Grapefruit’, duh) to give my pout some TLC."
