Delta Goodrem has been using this $10 pharmacy moisturiser for years

Plus, the scoop on her new fragrance…

Editor / November 08 2022

Having been in the spotlight since she was a teenager, Delta Goodrem knows a thing or two about beauty. And from her biggest beauty regret to her go-to skin care products, she’s never been one to gatekeep her tips.

Back in Australia to launch her fourth fragrance into Chemist Warehouse, BEAUTYcrew caught up with Goodrem to chat about the latest loves in her routine. From a $10 moisturiser to the step she always does before going on stage, here are her latest pearls of wisdom.

On what makes her new fragrance special…

“I feel like it's a new era, which is sort of indicative of the new shape of the bottle and staying true to where we are at now. The world's opened up, let's go. You cannot be the same as what you were prior to what we've all experienced. This is a new chapter. It [represents] having the strength in being able to be true to who you are. You can still be powerful in silence and in simplicity.”

On what it smells like…

“The fragrance [Power by Delta Goodrem] ($59.99 at Chemist Warehouse) is very wearable and it settles onto your skin in a really nice mix. It's not too sweet and it's not too strong. It's got a nice balance [and] a subtlety that allows you to wear the perfume; the perfume doesn’t wear you.” In three words? “Cohesive, elevated and beautiful.”

On her pre-stage rituals…

“There's a step-by-step no matter where we are an order to the chaos. I always brush my teeth before going on stage, it’s one of the last things I do before I go out. I spray my fragrance everywhere, a little bit in my hair too. I’ve [always] got a Coca-Cola, my water with hot lemon and honey; coffee too normally.”

On her struggles with acne…

“I’d always had clear skin growing up and then in my early thirties I started a new chapter and it was quite stressful, you know. My body really does respond to how I feel. It’s always a struggle and I do love that people are more open about it now. You see people on socials [share their skin] and I'm like, ‘Oh wow, that's so beautiful’. I’m so impressed by this new era because 10 years ago you wouldn’t really do that.”

On her skin care routine now…

“You can never underestimate the power of water. Drinking lots of water, sleeping and having some kind of a good routine. I do simple things, like just simple moisturisers. I use Cetaphil moisturiser ($10.49 at Chemist Warehouse) and I have simple cleansers (she’s been a longtime fan of Ella Baché's Moisture-Rich Cleansing Milk, $72 at Ella Baché) and then I have stronger serums — like some retinols that might help if it needs a little bit, or [using] light therapies all the time; things [you can] do at home.”

On her favourite professional treatments…

“Hydrating, hydrating, hydrating. There’s a lot of Australian women at the forefront of wonderful facials; Jocelyn [Petroni], Melanie [Grant]. Ingrid [Seaborn’s] been doing some wonderful treatments with me. I’m normally pretty big on Rationale, actually. They were great as well. It’s always a journey with your own skin, but I never do anything strong. I always find simple just works a bit better on me. No peels or anything burning I do love an LED.” FYI, her go-to is the Aduro Personal LED Mask ($529 at aduroaustralia.com.au).

On the return of Y2K trends…

“I mean, I love the ‘00s. I feel in my element in the ‘00s, it was a strong time for me. [But I] don’t need to do smaller brows, I’ve already lived that. It’s a no from me. But if you tell me the ‘00s are back, I’m back, baby. Just no to the eyebrows or low-rise jeans.”

On her favourite red carpet moment…

“I think the ARIA’s and that pink dress will forever be a special moment bottled up in time. It was the first time I had seen myself with no hair that day. It was a lot. I had been wearing little hats and things but we had to make sure it was completely good for the wig and, wow. It was a great little pixie cut. I’ve still got it and I even wore it again, in the Olivia [Newton-John] biopic.”

On doing her own makeup…

“I do my own hair and makeup when I’m travelling, in the middle of different places and different countries. Like all the shows for the Backstreet Boys for 3-4 months. I give myself two hours and I look up YouTube or Instagram and different makeup tutorials. When it’s me, I try to have a vision for what my makeup is but when I’m with Noni [my makeup artist], I am pretty chill. I’m a Revlon girl, so I use my Revlon products and I’m very proud of that as well.”

On how her hair evolves…

“[With] hair I’m very specific. I’m very much enjoying the trend of darker roots coming through. I’ll always have photo references; I’m very visual in the way I communicate. I’ll [also] do anything. I’ve had every hairstyle. [I haven’t had red] as an adult but when I was 14. There’s a lot of red hair going around at the moment and I’m into it, it’s beautiful. That might be my next perfume because every perfume has had different hair…”
