Delta Goodrem has been using the same skin care brand since she was a teenager
Plus, she’s releasing a new beauty product
Everything about Delta Goodrem’s beauty game is a total vibe - from her cool ‘70s-inspired shaggy fringe, to her clear skin and goal-worthy brows, the Australian pop icon is killing it on every level.
So, when we sat down with Delta to have an exclusive chat about the launch of her third fragrance, Destiny, we also took the opportunity to ask her all about her skin care routine and her biggest ever beauty regret.
On her new fragrance…
“This is the third part of the story. We started with Delta by Delta Goodrem, which is a very floral, fresh fragrance that’s perfect for every woman and everyday life. The second fragrance [Dream by Delta Goodrem] was when I experimented with noir scents and the whole day and night aspect. Then this one [Destiny by Delta Goodrem] is a bit of a combo of the whole journey, and the idea of dreaming and making it your reality. It’s a story. I’m a big believer in the details.”
On what she looks for in a fragrance…
“I stay true to what I want - I wouldn’t make a fragrance I’m wouldn’t want to wear! I want to make sure I’m obsessed with it. I must admit, it is pretty funny when you’re out at places and you pull out your own fragrance. You’re like, this is mine! For me, I like woody, vanilla, patchouli leaf scents. I like the base notes - something with meaning and depth. The first notes it [Destiny] leaves, that’s the impression and that’s the first impact – the scent of florals that are fresh and fun. And then it lasts with the wood and the vanilla. That’s the aspect that I have to have - it’s a big part of what I love in my house.”
On her go-to skin care products…
“Truthfully, because I’m always travelling, I can find everything along the way - I’m a bit of a gypsy with beauty products at times. There’s a couple of staples I’ve had my entire life that I use for washing my face, like Ella Bache (I’m obsessed!). My mum introduced them to me when I was a teenager and they’ve stayed with me my whole life. Otherwise, I’ll pick it up along the way and keep it simple. [I like to] experiment and find little nuggets here and there.”
“My skin is very sensitive (like my personality) so I have to keep it simple. My skin and my energy are very similar. My skin doesn’t like too much acid or fragrance; I’ve got to be really careful. It likes the earth and it likes everything to be kept very simple. It’s not a hack, but I have found that the more I try every type of skin care program out there, it gets really distressed.”
On the makeup product she can’t live without…
“My absolute staple would be highlighter. It’s perfect for when you don’t want to do a whole makeup look – you can just add a little gloss to your cheekbones and you’re done.”
On tricks she’s picked up from the makeup pros…
“I’m always open to discovery. Everyone is different and uses their own technique, and I definitely pick up on it. But it’s all about the prep. I take notice of how they [makeup artists] prep my skin, and always make sure they finish it all off. It’s the little things - like adding [the right] products to finish your blowout.”
On her unconventional beauty trick…
“It’s not unconventional, but I love to use the DermaLight mask - those stormtrooper-looking LED light masks. They’re so amazing - you just use them at home and it’s so convenient.”
On her biggest beauty regret…
“Outfits occasionally and brows. In the ‘90s when we were at school, it was thin brows. Lucky mine are naturally quite thick, and are now back to looking au naturel. I just tend to keep everything very natural. I think it’s important for girls to just let things naturally happen.”
On the highlight of her career so far…
“I feel so lucky. My last tour was a definite highlight, because I just enjoyed it so much! I’m a little bit older now, so I wasn’t as nervous and stressed - I really enjoyed it. I just love performing. I’ve been in it for a while now and now I just want to have fun!”
On what’s next for her career-wise…
“I’m very much in the studio at the moment. There’s no coincidence that I feel like the fragrance and metaphor behind Destiny is emulating my own life. I feel like this record is quite like destiny - my album is meant to be. I’m so excited to get to do the show [The Voice Australia] again next year and it’ll be a wonderful season, but being an artist is so important to me in the next chapter of my life. I love mentoring, but it’s also important for me to be the artist.”
