As the world struggles to contain the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, the number of confirmed cases continues to skyrocket. To support relief efforts throughout the global community, beauty brands are throwing themselves behind the cause turning cosmetic production houses into hand sanitiser factories and pledging major monetary donations.

Below, we’ve summarised how your favourite beauty brands are chipping in to help COVID-19 coronavirus relief efforts.

The Body Shop

The Body Shop is donating 30,000 cleansing products to shelters and seniors' communities across the United States and Canada as well as providing care packages for NHS workers in United Kingdom hospitals.

Clarins

Clarins has been working around the clock to produce and distribute hand sanitiser. The iconic French beauty brand has already provided French health authorities with around 14,500 bottles of alcoholic gel. Clarins is also donating 30,000 moisturising hand creams to our hardworking health professionals in hospitals.

“[Disinfecting] is hard on hands: as the skin’s protective hydrolipidic film becomes damaged, the skin suffers and becomes dry. The solution? Every night, before bed, when there is no more interaction with possible sources of contamination, I recommend applying a thick layer of moisturizing hand cream... As a way of supporting healthcare professionals in their fight against the epidemic, the Clarins Group will donate 30,000 moisturising creams to hospitals,” said Managing Director of the Clarins Group, Olivier Courtin-Clarins, in a media release.

COTY

Global beauty group COTY, which owns tonnes of famous brands including Max Factor, Rimmel and a 51 per cent state in Kylie Cosmetics, is producing hand sanitiser to donate to medical and emergency services staff.

“As a responsible beauty company, we make our resources and facilities available to help the communities we are operating in during these exceptionally challenging times. We are proud to support the brave professionals fighting on the frontlines against COVID-19 by providing hand sanitizer where it is needed,” said Coty CEO Pierre Laubies in a press release announcing the initiative.

Davines

Family-owned, Italian, sustainable hair care brand Davines has quickly turned around the production of 100,000 containers of hand sanitising gel to donate to the Italian community and charities supporting people in need.

Haus Laboratories

Lady Gaga’s beauty brand Haus Laboratories will be donating 20 per cent of profits from last week’s sales to LA Regional Food Bank and Food Bank For New York City.

L’Oréal

L’Oréal will manufacture hand sanitiser and create hygiene kits to give French and European health authorities and social workers. L’Oréal is also pleading one million euros to non-profit organisations assisting the disadvantaged during the outbreak.

LVMH

French luxury goods conglomerate LVMH (home of beauty brands including Christian Dior, Guerlain and Givenchy) is now producing hand sanitiser. LVMH is using three of its perfume and cosmetic factories to make sanitiser for donation to French hospitals and healthcare authorities. The company has also pledged USD$2.2 million towards medical supplies for the Chinese Red Cross Foundation and thanks to its global distribution network, has sourced millions of surgical masks to aid shortages.

MAC

Since 1994, MAC's Viva Glam lipstick initiative has raised over 500 million USD for charity organisations to help those in need by donating 100 per cent of the selling price of MAC's Viva Glam Lipsticks. Now, MAC is pledging a whopping 10 million USD to COVID-19 relief efforts across the globe.

"Viva Glam has never been about one cause, but about support to vulnerable communities. It was created many years ago simply as a hardship fund for people who needed safety nets. To leverage this 100 per cent giving model to help people affected by COVID-19 is a continuation of the principles VIVA GLAM was founded on from its inception," said Chairman of the MAC Viva Glam Fund and Executive Group President of The Estée Lauder Companies, John Demsey, in a statement announcing the move.

Kylie Cosmetics

In a joint effort with major Kylie Cosmetics investor COTY, Kylie and Kris Jenner have manufactured and distributed thousands of containers of hand sanitiser to frontline health workers. Kylie has also donated USD$1 million to help purchase further personal protective equipment for COVID-19 responders.

Jurlique

Jurlique has partnered with the Sydney Local Health District and directly with hospital donation departments in each state to donate 22,000 of their original and much-loved Rose Hand Cream to those who have been working tirelessly on the frontline including doctors, nurses, hospital administration support teams and cleaning units.

L'Occitane

L'Occitane has partnered with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation and is donating 10,000 of their iconic and best selling Shea Butter Hand Creams (which sell worldwide every 4 seconds!) to those on the frontline of the COVID-19 crisis in Australia. L'Occitane has also implemented similar initiatives in the United Kingdom, United States, France and China.

Meanwhile, L'Occitane's production facilities in Manosque that usually manufacture the brand's beauty products have been reassigned to produce verbena scent hand-sanitiser and the brand will be donating 70,000 litres of gel to healthcare workers in European countries most severely affected.
