The cut and colour combinations that are better together

“A rich true dark brown with a French blunt bob will give you a chic, classic, timeless look,” Williams explains. “I love this look blown-out, ends tucked in or out, or sassed up by applying mousse throughout the whole hair.” Chris Hunter (co-owner of Willomina Woollahra) agrees: “Autumn/winter is the perfect time to lop off your long bob into something short and chic.” The key to this combo? “A high amount of shine,” Hunter explains. “Bella Hadid and Kourtney Kardashian look great with this [cut/colour pairing]. This is such a strong look and for those who dare to go down this path it can come with great rewards.”

“Scalp bleaching is tough on hair, so it lends itself really well to shorter pixie cuts,” says Jaye Edwards, EdwardsAndCo Owner, Founder and Colourist. “The regular trims involved with maintaining this hairstyle mean that you are trimming off compromised hair, creating the canvas for a new, fresh scalp bleach." Copper is definitely trending in Hollywood right now, but the pros say to steer your colour richer/darker and your cut simpler to pull it off. “This look is such a vibe at the moment,” notes Williams. “This is great for someone who has little to no layers and wants a change but doesn’t want length off. Pair these long locks with a deeper shade of copper to suit the up and coming cooler weather. This will create the illusion of a warmer skin tone.”

“A bright frame around the front hairline customised after a balayage or foiling will really lift your complexion and make your colour pop," shares Edwards. "It also really increases the longevity of a colour, growing out very softly with minimal upkeep. As you need the colour to frame the face, this colour works best with longer, mermaid layers, as curtain bangs or shorter fringes will disconnect the colour."

Want to try something daring in both departments but still want synergy between your cut and colour? Try a shag spliced with your favourite bright shades. “The shag has exploded in popularity over the last few years, defined by its shorter, choppy layers and curtain bangs. This cut works really well for more creative colours for a unique look customised for each client,” Edwards explains.
