In an exclusive interview
With 174,000 Instagram fans and counting, Erin Holland has become one of Australia’s hottest stars, and is definitely one to watch. Not only can she take a mean selfie, she also knows how to work her angles on camera. Plus, she’s a singer, TV host, and former winner of Miss World 2013. Is there anything this girl can’t do?! Read on to find out about her best makeup tips, her advice for looking confident on the big screen, and more.
On her favourite memory from entering Miss World…
“Sitting down at meal times with the other contestants and talking about our lives, friends and family. Being a part of an international competition with 130 different countries taking part was the most incredibly eye-opening experience. The friends I have made all around the world is mind-blowing, and I know wherever I may travel to, someone I know isn't too far away!”
On doing her own makeup during Miss World…
“It's actually essential to always do your own makeup during the Miss World competition - which goes for almost a whole month. Whoever wins spends the next year constantly travelling with the International Miss World Organisation all over the world visiting their various charitable endeavours, in countries such as Haiti and Uganda to the USA and Philippines. It's impossible to always have makeup artists on standby at every single destination, so we must be able to sufficiently do our own hair and makeup. I have always been fairly adept at doing my own makeup, but hair is a real struggle for me! I literally had to have coaching lessons in how to groom myself for every kind of occasion before I left - which has actually come in handy for working back in Australia. But I am definitely still pretty rusty when it comes to hair. Thank god for my salon Kevin McKenzie Hair.”
On her latest work with Schick…
“I have been using Schick since I was a little girl, pinching my mum’s razor to try haha, so when Schick approached me with their innovative Virtual Catwalk concept, it was a match made in heaven! We filmed a one hour Facebook LIVE #KeepsOnGiving catwalk showcasing outfits I would wear during my day, and outfits were then auctioned for charity on my Facebook page. It was really exciting to not only get to partner with brands I've loved and used for years, but be a part of such a unique digital campaign that raised much needed funds for Dress For Success. (Wonderful organisation that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing support, professional attire and development tools).”
On her career highlight so far…
It’s such a tough choice. I'm fortunate to have had a number of pinch-me moments recently. Probably being cast in Channel 7's The Secret Daughter for my first ever TV acting role, or signing on with BMW/Ferrari Brisbane earlier this year as an ambassador. It's been such an exciting year all round!”
On the best makeup tip she’s learnt…
“It's all about the primer. Everything you do on top will never look or last as long if you don't lay the correct foundations first. And I mean not just simply using a primer, but priming your skin on a daily basis with a good skin care routine. As I've gotten older, I've noticed my skin tends to be on the drier side, so I’m constantly making sure I'm using nourishing and moisturising skin care from my face to my legs.”
On her beauty muse…
“I always find myself stalking Rosie Huntington-Whiteley for makeup inspiration. Is. She. Even. Real?!?!”
On her go-to red carpet look…
“My go-to and most versatile beauty look would have to be a great bronzed smoky eye with lots of lashes, a nude lip and some silky smooth pins! I never really feel like I've completed an outfit if my legs aren’t completely smooth so Schick’s Hydro Silk razor is an easy and effective way to keep my legs silky smooth and moisturised all night.”
On her best tips for taking a good selfie…
“It's 100 per cent all about the lighting. Facing a good dose of natural light is always going to give you beautiful, luminous skin and a flawless complexion. No need for filters when Mother Nature can do it for you.”
On her best tips for looking confident on camera…
“Inner confidence really radiates in photographs. When I feel happy and confident within myself and how I look, I know all I have to worry about is the job at hand. Preparation is key for any job - and when I am on camera, feeling prepared visually and mentally is going to bring out my best me.”
On the other projects that she’s working on…
“As mentioned before, I have ongoing ambassador duties with BMW and Ferrari Brisbane, plus Endota Spa, singing projects and a couple of exciting new brands I’m working with that will be announced in the coming weeks... stay tuned!”
