What is non-touring?
It all began with contouring – a Kardashian inspired craze that sent people into a cheek-chiselling, face-painting frenzy. Then came along strobing, a more radiant upgrade that focused on enhancing your facial features with light reflecting products. But now, there’s a new beauty movement that’s softer, will make your skin look gorgeous and is completely easy to achieve.
Meet non-touring, a makeup technique that revolves around fresh, natural-looking makeup that gently encourages subtle shape with a glow-from-within look.
"Instead of a heavy contoured look, non-touring is very soft," explains celebrity makeup artist Renee Sanganoo to Marie Claire US. "It's kind of like Spanx for the skin – you know you're wearing it, but no one's supposed to see it.”
Sangoo also added models of the moment Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner have mastered the non-touring look.
"It's about dewy and glowy skin—you don't want the skin to look super matte or dry.” Which, undoubtedly, is a makeup look worn famously by the supermodel BFF’S.
And we haven’t even got to the best part. There’s no need to be highly skilled at shading or having the patience for hour-long makeup applications (we’re blaming that one on you Kim Kardashian) as non-touring consists of only three simple steps. So even with the most amateur of makeup skills, you can totally nail this look.
To begin, start with a luminous primer (we like Estée Lauder Illuminating Perfecting Primer and Tom Ford Illuminating Primer) and apply it to your entire face.
Next, apply your base with a tinted moisturiser or a BB cream, as this look is all about your natural skin shining through. If your skin needs some extra coverage, apply a concealer to hide any blemishes or dark circles.
To finish, simply grab a highlighter and apply it to the places where the light naturally hits your face – above your cheekbones, top of cupid brows, down the middle of the nose and middle of the forehead. The key difference between non-touring and strobing is keeping your highlighter really soft and natural. Where strobing is about highlighter you can see from all angles under all lights and even from outer space, it’s more of a soft and subtle finish for non-touring, so try using a fan brush, like Smashbox Fan Brush No.22 to gently sweep the colour over your face.
