Filming for 'Wicked' may be over but Ariana Grande's keeping her 'Galinda brows'

“When I see dark brows on me, I feel like I'm looking at an alien.”

Ariana Grande has dedicated the last few years of her life to bringing the world of Oz to life in Jon M. Chu's film adaptation of the musical Wicked.

During the process of becoming Galinda, Grande did everything she could to adapt her familiar look into something that fit seamlessly into the world Chu created on screen.

"[I wanted] to look in the mirror and see someone else, and for people watching to see a character and not me," she told Allure.

"We tried many different eyebrow shades, so many different toner concoctions, and so many different wigs, because they all tell different stories," she explained. "I’ll never forget when we finally landed on the perfect combination. Our director, Jon M. Chu, was like, 'that's her.'"

However, despite the fact that filming officially wrapped in January, Grande has become so accustomed to her bleached brows she can't bear to let them go.

"I actually am still bleaching them, but I'm toning them a little bit in between brown and blonde," she told the publication. "[I’ve got] sort of like gingery, strawberry blonde eyebrows right now, just because I really like it and I got very used to it."

"When I see dark brows on me, I feel like I'm looking at an alien," she joked.

"It's quite interesting… so [now] I'm somewhere in the middle, but I plan to keep it up for quite some time," she confessed.

"I'm doing it myself now," she continued. "I have a little brow kit labelled 'Galinda brow.' I have a pink spoolie. It’s very fun."

But her brows aren't the only thing in Grande's life that's been affected by the behemoth of a film, the singer's makeup brand r.e.m. beauty has launched a Wicked collection in collaboration with the musical.

The partnership was proposed by the film's producer Universal Pictures in 2022 and Grande leapt at the opportunity.

"Wicked is something that I think deserves everyone's best at all times," Grande explained. "I knew we had to start [right then] to get it right."

"I wanted it to really feel like part of the world [of the film]. I wanted it to be a means for the fans to feel closer to it than they ever could," she went on to say.

"Everything was so secretive, but [Universal] allowed [the r.e.m. beauty product development team] to see the sets and the props and the costumes in person and feel what it was like to be there. I really think it affected how everything turned out in a big way," she revealed.

But the film adaptation wasn't all that inspired the collection, a childhood encounter with the Broadway musical's lead, Idina Menzel, informed Grande's process too.

"When I was 10, I got to go backstage, and when I went past Idina [Menzel]’s dressing room, I saw [something] purple on her makeup station, and I was like, 'Wait, what's the purple for?' And she said, 'Oh, Elphaba's contour.'"

The entire limited-edition r.e.m. beauty x Wicked collection will be available on rembeauty.com from October 1st.
