6 hair styling trends we can’t wait to try in 2024
Three hair experts forecast the year ahead
Although one might think that a new haircut or hair colour is the determining factor for a transformative hair moment, mastering a multitude of hairstyles can allow you to live many lives in the space of a single day.
As we welcome a new year (hello, 2024!), we also welcome the opportunity to try new styles and refresh our looks with the help of a headband, and a bow or two.
BEAUTYcrew picked the brains of Australian hair experts Jaye Edwards (Founder of EdwardsAndCo salon group), Anthony Nader (Founder of Raw By Anthony Nader salon), and Michael Kelly (Founder of HER salon) to determine their hair styling trend predictions for the year ahead.
By the looks of things there’s a lot of things to look forward to in 2024…
The voluminous side part
“I'm loving the voluminous side part,” says Edwards. “[It can really change up someone's look [and create] a bit of a faux fringe. I'm expecting to see a lot of this for 2024.”

The Carolyn Bassette Kennedy headband
“I think the headband is going to make a return,” predicts Edwards. “[Specifically] the Carolyn Bassette Kennedy inspired look — I love seeing different 90s trends make a comeback.”

The slick back
Slicked-back buns, ponytails and braids were seen everywhere on last season's overseas runways, says Nader, who attributes its popularity to the sleek, effortless and contemporary appearance of the trend. “This style is also a great way to elevate a look without overpowering it,” he adds.

The comb headband
Nader rates a comb headband if you want to add a bit of edge to your hairstyle. He recommends playing with the length at the back, twirling it into a twist and securing the head band, leaving the lengths showing around the crown area. But it also works well with a classic, polished and sleek blow dry straight, styled with the hair pushed back and away from the face.

The bow barrette
“Dress up your hairstyle with a clip-in bow barrette,” says Nader. “[It’s] super low fuss with a big impact. Keep the colours classic though so you can wear this [in] any season.”

The wash and wear
Michael Kelly predicts that wash and wear hair will be the new normal for more discerning clients. “Embracing natural textures and shapes in hair will be more and more fashionable,” he says. “Choosing smoothing options like Keratin Smoothing treatments will allow for more manageable hair while you're getting used to the new texture you're sporting [too].”
