This supermarket skin-brightening serum-in-lotion just secured a spot among our editor’s summer skin essentials
A heavenly hybrid formula indeed
One of the best beauty lessons my mum ever taught me was ‘moisturise every day’. And I’m not talking about just your face (because, like, obviously). Nope, she made it crystal clear that head-to-toe hydration was an essential step after every single shower, morning and night. And I’ve never missed a day of it since.
As a fan of a faux glow, it’s an important part of getting the most out of my weekly tan, and TBH, the feeling of limbs not coated in lotion is now my least favourite thing ever. So I simply refuse to feel it.
To make sure I never do, I always stay very well stocked up on body lotions. And I have a few favourite brands that are all my favourite things: affordable, stocked at the supermarket, and familiar enough that I know my sensitive skin won’t have a worry.
So when one arrived on my desk that hit the ‘cheap, easy to find, and trustworthy’ brief (hailing from Vaseline, a brand I’ve used for years), I knew things were looking good…
The product
The Vaseline Gluta Hya Serum Burst Lotion is a fresh new formula that comes in three different variants: Dewy Radiance, Flawless Glow, and Pro-Age Restore. Whilst I was sure my skin could benefit from all three, I decided to take the Dewy Radiance option home to try first. After all, who doesn’t want in on a bit of dewy radiance?
Designed (and in fact, clinically proven) to deliver brighter skin in as little as five days, it’s a formula bursting with active ingredients, all designed to hydrate and illuminate the body. Wondering where its name comes from? I was too. ‘Gluta’ is there to rep the ‘GlutaGlow’ technology in the mix, which works to boost your skin’s natural levels of glutathorne in an effort to brighten your skin, meaning the range is designed to have ‘10x more antioxidant power than vitamin C*’. Um, wow. As for the ‘Hya’, that’s shouting out the inclusion of ‘hyaluron’, an ingredient celebrated for its impressive moisture-boosting abilities. And for the radiance-enhancing record, niacinamide is also included, because well, what’s a dullness-fighting formula without it?
You may also have clocked the term ‘Serum Burst Lotion’ both here in my trusty review, and on the pearlescent pink packaging (worthy of prime positioning on a bathroom vanity, I might add). That’s because it’s not exactly a serum and not exactly a lotion, but rather a hybrid of the two, able to offer the ease of a lotion, but the efficacy of a serum.
Vaseline Gluta Hya Serum Burst Lotion Dewy Radiance review
I told you I never skip a post-shower moisturising session, and I stayed true to that record whilst testing the Vaseline Gluta Hya Serum Burst Lotion Dewy Radiance ($11 at Woolworths or Coles). I applied onto clean, towel-dried skin after both my morning and evening showers and let me say it was a damn delight doing so.
Both when I was looking to change into my outfit for the day and my PJs for the evening, there was no waiting around for the formula to slowly sink in. It absorbed super quickly, and my skin felt instantly hydrated upon applying, but not sticky in the slightest.
The formula had a silkier feel than a traditional body moisturiser, and I think that’s why it sank in so rapidly and effectively. It makes sense, considering the Serum Burst Lotion factor – serum is designed to be lighter in feel than a general moisturiser, but heavier in intensity, and this formula felt just like that.
It ’glided’ across my skin beautifully, making applying quick and easy. I also really rated the fact that my skin had a ‘glistening’ effect from first use - it wasn’t shimmery or OTT, but looked more like a natural ‘glow’. Dare I say, it was a ‘dewy radiance’, AKA exactly what the product promised.
I started testing it out on Monday, and by Saturday morning, I was rather impressed with how bright and fresh my skin looked. Its hydrating benefits had helped my tan to lock in for longer, so hey maybe that was a factor too, but my limbs looked visibly more radiant and even in tone. I was specifically quite the fan of how my legs looked with the formula on - they weren’t giving ‘slathered in body oil’ (thankfully, because it’s not my fave aesthetic), but they looked hydrated and luminous, just like I like them to.
I loved the fresh fragrance too - I don’t personally care for moisturisers with strong scents (and neither does my sensitive skin), but this formula simply had a ‘clean’ type of aroma that was a nice addition to my scent profile for the day.
The verdict
I’ll be restocking for sure - at least after I give the other two options a try. The Vaseline Gluta Hya Serum Burst Lotion Dewy Radiance formula is everything I like in a body moisturiser – it’s non-fussy but effective, it’s easy to grab during a trip to the shops, and it’s affordable despite the luxe feel of the formula - $11 at Woolworths or Coles!
I had full faith in the brand from the get-go, but my already high expectations were exceeded with how much I enjoyed using the product. It’s certainly locked in its spot as one of my summer skin essentials. Dewy radiance for December and beyond sounds ideal.
