I tried TikTok's "everything shower" trend and it was the best night of my life
See you there next Sunday
What's TikTok for if not watching strangers romanticising everyday tasks? Preparing basic snacks has become known as our 'hyper-fixation meal'. Documenting the daily grind is officially known as a 'day in the life as [insert glamorous job title]' and hitting our daily steps quota is known by nothing else but a 'hot girl walk'.
And now, TikTokers are one-upping each other over their shower routine. That's right. The good old 'quick rinse' has now become a full-blown at-home spa day.
Naturally, as with every trend, we're kind of obsessed.
What is an 'everything shower'?
Consider it your regular shower but with all the bells and whistles. This indulgent self-care wind-down or pre-event pamper extends far beyond just a quick rinse. In fact, it'll make your hair wash night look like child's play.
It's an afternoon spent burning your favourite Diptyque candle as you wear a leave-in treatment and an overnight mask hours before you've even considered turning on the tap.
Designed as a once-per-week reset, these luxe self-care sessions are just as much for our mental health as they are for our physical.
After all, what's not to love about a beauty and wellness crossover?
What does our perfect 'everything shower' look like?
#1 Set the mood
First things first: vibe check. If you've been saving your expensive candles for a rainy day, the time has arrived. We're lighting up the good stuff, dimming the lights and making ourselves a herbal tea (Pukka's Love Tea, obviously).
Which candles do we have in our rotation? Diptyque's Baies Noire Candle ($139 at MECCA), the Lumira Tunisian Mint Tea ($80 at David Jones) and of course, TRUDON's The Alabasters Atria ($299 at Trudon).
#2 Mask up
First, cleanse and pat dry your face. Next, apply either a brightening, hydrating or clarifying face mask (depending on whatever your complexion is craving). If you're asking us, we'll be reaching for the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask ($43 at MECCA).
#3 Buff, slough and scrub
As you marinate in your face mask, move onto some much needed body care. To boost our circulation and promote lymphatic drainage, we're kicking things off with a dry body brush session using the VOYA Exfoliating Body Brush & Organic Cotton Pouch ($37 at VOYA). Once we're all warmed up, it's time for an all-over exfoliation. Whether it's a fake tan remover or a body scrub, make sure to slough away residual product or dead skin cells before jumping into the shower to rinse it all off.
For an effective exfoliation, we can't go past the Bondi Sands Coconut & Sea Salt Body Scrub ($15.99 at Priceline).
#4 It's (finally) shower time
We're already four steps deep and we haven't even set foot in the shower.
Once you've washed your mask off, hop into the shower and wash away the remaining exfoliator. Next, apply a moisturising (and amazing-smelling) body wash like the Kit Wellness Wash ($34 at MECCA). And if you so require, why not shave and brush your teeth using the Gem Triple Whitening Toothpaste ($15 at Gem) while you're there.
That's our body's in-shower routine sorted; next we're moving onto our hair. Remove the week's worth of product build-up with a scalp scrub like Kevin Murphy's Scalp Spa Scrub ($47.95 at Adore Beauty).
Follow it up with a shampoo and conditioner, apply a hair mask like Sam McKnight's Deeper Love Intense Treatment ($91 at MECCA), comb through and get ready to dry off.
#5 Complete your PM skin routine
As per the 'everything shower' TikTok jokes go, this rigorous routine can be so intense that it ends up leaving you fatigued instead of relaxed. So, if you've made it this far, well done.
Considering we've already cleansed and applied a mask, our big finisher includes a skin-strengthening moisturiser.
And we know the exact pot for the job: Ole Henriksen's Strength Trainer Peptide Boost Moisturiser ($68 at Sephora), to seal in moisture and protect our skin overnight.
