The surprising secret to Gigi Hadid’s signature nude lip
And it’s got nothing to do with lipstick
For many of us, a nude lip is the classic look we opt for day in and day out. Not only do we love the colour for its versatility, but also because there’s a nude shade out there for everyone, regardless of your skin tone.
The problem however, is finding that perfect shade. We’re sure you’ve all experienced the frustration of buying a lipstick that looked perfect in the bullet and even swatched nicely on the back of your hand, only to find it clashed with your skin’s undertones once you swept it on your lips, leaving you looking chalky.
While we encourage you to not give up hope (read our guide for how to find your perfect nude lipstick match for some extra pointers), you may also want to take note of Gigi Hadid’s simple solution to your nude lip woes: Enter concealer.
Yep! The model, who is currently promoting the launch of her very own makeup collaboration with Maybelline New York, revealed to W Magazine that her secret to creating the perfect nude lip involves using a concealer as a lipstick double.
“I am a nude lipstick enthusiast…I always wore nude pretty much until I started working, I started wearing coloured lips, but before that, in high school my first makeup was Maybelline 24 Hour Concealer, and I used to put it on my lips because I hated how dark my lips were. And I still do that,” Gigi said .
While this hack isn’t likely to work for everyone, especially those with lighter skin tones (using concealer as a lipstick could leave fair skin looking washed out), the model’s hack is a quick, simple and cost-effective option for anyone with darker lips who’s looking for a pretty creamy nude lip colour.
