Simone Biles counts this viral hair mask as one of her favourite beauty products

"A lot of people think gymnasts don’t do much with beauty... but that’s not the case"

Beauty Crew Beauty Editor / June 26 2024

Simone Biles may be in training mode in the lead-up to the 2024 Paris Olympics in July, but that hasn't stopped the medal-touting gymnast from staking her claim on one of the most viral hair care brands across the globe.

Biles has just been announced as the official face of K18 with the brand bestowing a two-year ambassadorship on the 27 year old. Surprised by the partnership? You shouldn't be. Biles has always been candid about sharing her signature makeup look with the world on various social media channels and media outlets.

"A lot of people think gymnasts don’t do much with beauty — that we don’t wear makeup or change up our hair — but that’s not the case,” Biles shared with WWD. "[It's] even more [part of my artistry] than the music, because when I feel beautiful and true and authentic to myself — I perform better."

However, when it comes to Biles' hair, she's had to deal public scrutiny and comments about her competition bun being 'messy', distracting from her undeniable success in gymnastics.

But according to Biles, her signature competition day hairstyle was a practical response to the demands of her sport.

"Over the years, my approach to hair health has been quite different," Biles told WWD. Her mother would braid her hair for competitions and training, and in an attempt to keep her hair protected from the heat synonymous with her hometown of Houston, Texas.

"Then I started getting [longer] braids and we were like, ‘Okay — that doesn’t really work for competing in gymnastics,'" she explained to the publication.

Unfortunately, the bun we've all come to associate with the Olympian has put a lot of stress on her hair, which is why her hairstylist, Jazmine Johnson, started using K18's restorative range of hair care products on Biles' hair. Johnson has been a K18 ambassador for the past four years and she uses the brand's products on all of her clients in-salon.

"[My hair] has kind of gone through all phases of life — thickness, thinness — getting it back to health again and getting into extensions; the whole process," the gymnast shared. "I say my favourite but really it’s our favourite — my hairstylist Jaz and I. She’s like a sister to me — she knows exactly how I like my hair, and has brought it back to life several times."
