It’s not only those with dry skin that suffer from signs of dehydration; sitting in air conditioning, laying in the sun and, of course, a low daily intake of H2O can all contribute to flaky skin that lacks radiance. And while it’s not always possible to drink a full two litres of water daily, you can make changes and new additions to your skin care routine to achieve a visible difference. Follow these tips to up the hydration levels in your skin, depending on how much time you have on your hands.

If you’ve got 10 seconds

Face mists are a quick and easy way to rehydrate skin as they’re usually small enough to tote in your handbag and can be used on top of foundation. Alpha-H Beauty Sleep Power Mist with Vitamin Complex is rich in vitamins A, B, C, D and E to improve natural hyaluronic acid production in skin, increase collagen production and diminish the look of fine lines.

If you’ve got one minute

Sometimes your skin needs much more than a layer of moisturiser in the morning and before you go to sleep at night, which is where an essence comes in handy. They’re lightweight yet potent fluids that can deliver additional vitamins and antioxidants to provide a helping hand in hydrating skin. La Prairie Skin Caviar Essence-in-Lotion can give your skin care routine a much needed moisture boost. To use it, “pour a few drops onto fingertips and smooth over skin,” says La Prairie National Training Manager, Belinda Besant. “Then use a gentle patting motion and massage the product in for a few seconds until it is completely absorbed for maximum results.”

If you’ve got 20 minutes

Not only is it seriously relaxing to pop on a face mask, but they’re also ace at hydrating and softening the skin, and should be applied at least once a week. Cloth-based Lancome Genifique Masks are saturated in their signature anti-ageing Genifique serum, which also works to re-plump and visibly brighten the skin. Plus, they’re a great option for frequent travellers as each mask is sealed individually to minimise potential mess.

If you’ve got an hour

Want dramatic results? Then a Skinbooster treatment is a great option. During the treatment, a device called the Korean Beauty Gun with five to nine needles injects either hyaluronic acid-based Teosyal or Restylane Vital into the face and neck to rejuvenate and hydrate the skin’s layers underneath. “The Teosyal Redensity 1 consists of hyaluronic acid (which we lose from our skin as we age, and is also the product in dermal fillers), as well as amino acids, antioxidants and minerals,” says cosmetic specialist Dr Naomi McCullum. “After treatment, the complexion becomes more radiant, with improvements in hydration and wrinkles.” Results can be seen from the first treatment, however a course of three treatments is recommended.
