Tried and tested: Jurlique Ultimate Signature Facial
When it comes to my facial of choice, I’m usually quick to ask for an extraction session. In fact, I will always tell my facialist not to hold back and to clear my skin of all the gunk and blackheads, meaning that my hour is spent writhing around in pain instead of using my facial as an opportunity to switch off. What can I say? I’m a sucker for clear skin.
I knew that going into this Jurlique facial – the 90-minute Ultimate Signature Facial – was going to be a completely different story to my usual facial of choice, so here’s a rundown of the products used, the steps taken, and the results.
The products
Given I was in the Jurlique store, all products used for the facial were, of course, Jurlique, but my facialist Rachael chose products best suited to my skin concerns (congestion, combination skin type, and the early signs of ageing). A few of the products included were the Clarifying Gel Cleanser, the Purifying Mask, the Purely Age Defying Refining Treatment, the Purely Age Defying Firming Serum, and the Skin Balancing Face Oil. And then there were a few mists and essences thrown in there for extra relaxation and skin benefits.
The process
There is a lot that goes on in those 90 minutes, but the entire session is so relaxing and calming, you barely notice the movement from one step to the next. In fact, I found it so incredibly hard to concentrate on what was going on that I had to follow-up after the facial to ask what it involved (great journalist skills there, right?).
In a nutshell, the facial began with deep cleanse (using a brush machine) across my face, neck and décolletage, which was followed by a skin analysis to determine the next steps and the products to use according to my personal skin concerns.
Rachael then compressed my skin with a muslin cloth for a few minutes, and began the professional exfoliation, which uses a peel packed with enzymes to exfoliate and soften the skin.
The next step was my favourite. After applying the serum, I was then treated to about 15 minutes of face massage heaven. Using the Jurlique Skin Balancing Facial Oil, Rachael massaged my face, neck, and shoulders, leaving me feeling beyond relaxed.
Right when I was about ready to fall asleep, we moved onto the Purifying Face Mask, which set while I was given a hand massage.
The facial was finished off with a moisturiser on my face, neck, and décolletage, a quick spritz of facial mist, and a light shoulder massage.
The pay-off
Besides the fact that I was completely and utterly zenned out by the end of the 90 minutes (I think that was down to the techniques used and the beautiful scents of the products) , my skin felt and looked soft, plump, and radiant. It didn’t feel oily or heavy with product, just fresh and clean – like, really clean, so I decided to give my makeup a miss for the rest of the day so it could just breathe.
The final verdict
At $150 for an hour and a half of bliss (that actually benefits your skin, too), I’d say treat yourself. Treat your mother, treat your grandmother, treat your best friend. Not only can you give yourself some time to just switch off (something I find incredibly hard to do!), but your complexion reaps the benefits, too.
