The latest trend in plastic surgery is certainly an interesting one
We never saw this coming
Plastic surgery has become hugely popular in recent years with a significant portion of that spike due to the rise of non-invasive treatments like cheek and lip fillers.
While the desire for fuller lips and more prominent cheekbones isn’t all that surprising – just look at the plump pouts and cherub cheeks of certain celebrities, the latest body part receiving a whole lot of filler love is certainly unexpected.
The body part in question? Earlobes.
We know, we were surprised too.
To find out more about the trend and why it’s become so popular, especially in older patients, we spoke to Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) and facial plastic surgeon Dr. William Mooney.
According to Mooney, earlobe fillers are on the rise because “what happens in a lot of older patients is they get a linear crease as they age.” This crease in the earlobe takes place as a result of the natural ageing process but can also be exacerbated through the wearing of heavy or statement earrings over a period of time. As a result, many patients opt for earlobe fillers to “reverse stretched earring hole perforations because they can be very disfiguring,” says Mooney.
Mooney also adds that the fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid and are “the same fillers that we use elsewhere in the face like the lips, cheeks and chin, nose and folds.” Additionally, “the same administration technique is practiced where ice is used to numb the areas and fill the line.”
