Selena Gomez’s ‘bubblegum disco’ nails are the best nail trend of 2023

If you’ve been playing Selena Gomez’s new song "Single Soon" on repeat, we feel you. The song is a bona fide bop. And as for the music video? It’s jam-packed with Easter eggs us beauty lovers can’t look past – from the Carrie Bradshaw references to the Barbie nail inspo.

And it seems Gomez has started a brand new nail trend, leaning into the Barbiecore aesthetic to deliver the ultimate glittery pink claws. Dubbed ‘bubblegum disco’ nails by her manicurist, Tom Bachik, the set combines elements of Y2K, balletcore and, of course, the Barbie aesthetic that’s dominated 2023.

Luckily for us, Bachik was kind enough to detail exactly how he brought the glittery manicure to life in an Instagram post. If you’re familiar with BIAB nails, this process will definitely sound familiar. He first used the Tweezerman x Tom Bachik Kit to shape and perfect Gomez’s nails before applying the Apres Nail Maisie Stiletto Gel X Tips and softening with a ballerina shape. 

Bachik then applied the Apres Nail Gel Couleur in ‘Sweet Cheeks’ as the bubblegum base colour, topping with the ‘Champagne Supernova’ shade from the Model Ones x Tom Bachik ‘Rich Girl Retro’ palette to add some disco sparkle. The set was then locked in with the Apres Nail Non-Wipe Glossy Top GelCoat for a high-gloss finish.
