Is Bella Hadid using under-eye patches wrong?
We’re confused too
Ok, we need to talk about under-eye patches. You know, those mini masks specially made for the under-eye area to target puffiness, fine lines, wrinkles and all that jazz?
Have you ever wondered whether the tapered end sits under the inner corner or the outer corner of the eye? Well, Bella Hadid has and she recently took to Instagram Stories to pose the question to her fans.
As you can see, Bella’s makeup artist Jen Myles has opted for the tapered-ends of the patches to be positioned under the outer corner of Bella’s eyes.
Bella then uploaded another Instagram story with the caption, “I think they are wrong because they are stabbing me”. Meanwhile, Bella’s makeup artist stares quizzically into the mirror checking the positioning of the patches.
Now we’re doubting ourselves because truth be told, we’ve been wearing them the opposite way all this time…Shouldn’t the thinner side of the mask sit under the inner corner of the eye where it may have a more ergonomic fit? Because comfort, no?
As we were unable to reach a unanimous verdict here at the Beauty Crew HQ, we decided to seek expert advice.
We spoke to Pip Crichton, who is the Regional Director Australia at Peter Thomas Roth and also heads up education for the brand, and she had some interesting info to share!
It turns out none of us are doing it wrong – eye masks can actually be worn both ways.
“Eye patches can be applied in two distinct ways. The way Bella was wearing in her Instagram story targets crow feet, or the alternative way targets under-eye puffiness and wrinkles,” says Crichton.
Who knew?!
Besides learning that we’re not actually using them incorrectly (phew!), we’re also pretty thrilled to hear under-eye patches are so versatile. We love a good multitasker!
A few of our favourites are Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Pure Hydra Eye Patch ($115 at Sephora), Garnier Hydra Bomb Eye Tissue Mask with Orange Juice & Hyaluronic Acid ($2.39 at Chemist Warehouse) and Skin Republic Collagen Hydrogel Under Eye Patch ($8.49 at Chemist Warehouse).
If you’re a bit of a mask-a-holic like us, you might want to look into the world of fun eye masks. These aesthetic under-eye masks are simply asking for selfies.
