Here’s what the 'Puberty Blues' cast looks like in 2022

TBH, Gary still has our hearts

Any Aussie Gen Y/Gen Z’ers will no doubt remember Puberty Blues vividly.

It was the show we were all desperate to watch every week, but definitely couldn’t watch with our parents – ironic considering the fact that it was penned about their generation, not ours.

Basically, it was a homegrown hit that had absolutely everything you could ask for – women’s liberation, bell-bottom jeans, and truly incredible hair. Honestly, the guys’ manes were just as great as the girls’ (and the ladies were not lacking in the luscious locks department).

Because while the Kardashian contour certainly wasn’t a thing in 1970s Cronulla (and bare faces were embraced pretty much the whole way through), the show still managed to spawn some quality beauty moments.

And though it feels like it was literally yesterday, it actually premiered 10 whole years ago. Wild, right?

So, if you’re feeling nostalgic for 2012, when you somehow felt nostalgic for an era you weren’t even alive during, here’s what our favourite members of the Greenhill gang look like these days…

Ashleigh Cummings (Debbie)

Debbie’s beachy waves were everything to us circa 2012, so while Cummings has swapped her long locks for shoulder-length strands and her caramel colour for sandy blonde, we’re glad to see the tousled texture is still going strong.

Brenna Harding (Sue)

When we think natural beauty, we think Sue Knight (she truly was the best friend with the best skin), so it’s no surprise that Harding is capable of rocking any cut and colour. We’re big fans of her recent chocolate-hued chop, though – very chic.

Sean Keenan (Gary)

Gary is basically the guy we have to blame for our generation’s affinity for sandy-haired surfers, and we’re not the slightest bit mad about it. Keenan wears his hair a little longer (and his facial hair a little scruffier) these days, but those eyes remain as bright and blue as the Cronulla oceans.

Dylan Goodearl (Danny)

Gary wasn’t the only blonde board-rider that ruled our teen hearts; Danny’s golden locks were every bit as glorious as Gary’s. It turns out Goodearl said “you’re dropped” to his hair a few years after the series wrapped, though – talk about a one-eighty.

Charlotte Best (Cheryl)

If you ask us, Dua Lipa got credit for a hair trend that Cheryl started – she definitely invented ‘skunk strands’ long ago. Best, on the other hand, embraces a brunette block colour and prefers to frame her face with a textured fringe rather than peroxide-lifted pieces.

Isabelle Cornish (Vicki)

In addition to having the top one-liners in the show, (“fish-faced moll” still stands out as a particularly biting insult), Vicki also had some of the glossiest skin and hair we’d ever seen. Cornish embraces lighter locks now (and looks divine doing it), but damn, that skin still glows.

Reef Ireland (Bruce)

Ah, Bruce Board. The name still sends shudders down our spines. Ireland IRL, however, evidently knows his way around a grooming routine. He’s still partial to a little facial scruff, sure, but it works a treat with his short chop. We reckon Mrs. Vickers would approve.

Ed Oxenbould (David)

David Vickers has to be Australia's most iconic little brother; dobbing and ruining dinner parties were his specialties (who could forget the frog?!). While his character may have outgrown his love for Cheryl, Oxenbould hasn't outgrown David's signature shaggy length (sans the '70s side part; he's Gen Z after all).
