It’s official, the results for the most searched hairstyle of 2020 are in. Taking out the title with a clear win this year is the universally flattering cut: the bob.
Averaging a whopping 222,580 monthly searches, it seems we’ve all been tempted to get out the scissors and kiss our longer locks goodbye in favour of a chin-grazing cut.
Coming in at second place was the bun, with 85,890 average monthly searches. And closely behind, the fringe, with 85,830 average monthly searches.
So, were you one of the ones searching for bob inspo? Whether you like your hair rigid and blunt or more textured and piecey, there is a variation of this title winning hairstyle for you.
But if you’re still not sold on your ability to pull off this look, Redken UK ambassador Larry King revealed to GLAMOUR UK that the secret lies in finding the style best suited to your hair type and face shape.
“There are definitely styling tricks that suit different face shapes and textures, so it’s important to take all of that into consideration before getting started” he explained.
Round face? Larry recommends opting “for a bob that finishes closer to the collarbone to elongate your face”
Heart-shaped face? “Make your bob super short to accentuate the jawline and cheekbones” he said..
Square face? “Go for length that sits below the jaw and break it up with a grown-out fringe”
And… an oval face? Well aren’t you lucky, you have the pick of the bunch as this face shape is said to pull off any style.
But, the admin of choosing your ideal bob doesn’t stop there. Also speaking to GLAMOUR UK, Jonathan Soons explains “the shorter your neck, the more classic the bob needs to be.” This is in order to “avoid making your neck looking any shorter,” So when talking to your hairdresser, make sure you “keep your cut jaw-length and above”.
