Mario Dedivanovic’s highlighting hack is beyond bizarre
But the results are incredible
If you’ve ever spotted photos of Kim Kardashian on more than one red carpet over the years then there’s a very good chance you’ve seen the work of celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic.
And while Kim K is one of his most high-profile clients, Dedivanovic also paints the faces of the likes of Megan Fox, Kourtney Kardashian, Demi Lovato, Jenna Dewan Tatum, Kate Bosworth, Suki Waterhouse, Shay Mitchell, Kendall Jenner and Khloe Kardashian (just to name a few).
That’s why saying he’s a master at red carpet makeup looks is in no way an overstatement. It’s also why we gobble up each and every morsel of beauty information he happens to dish out, like this one…
Dedivanovic revealed a new makeup trick at his recent Master Class for influencers and beauty professionals in Los Angeles and lucky for us, writers from Refinery29 shared the makeup artist’s sneaky trick for creating the perfect highlight on their website.
As it turns out, Dedivanovic uses Sweat Effect Transparent Jelly by Kroylan – a stage makeup formula that’s used on television and movies sets to replicate the look of sweat. Only he uses the jelly as a highlighting enhancer of sorts.
Dedivanovic applies a small amount of a classic highlighter (be it a cream or powder formula) to the highpoints of the face before dabbing the jelly on top with a damp beautyblender. According to Dedivanovic, the hack works to add a beautiful and natural glow that looks like real skin as the Kryolan jelly diffuses any “chunkiness or glitters” that traditional highlighter might leave.
While the hack sounds odd, the results certainly speak for themselves:
If you’re thinking of trying the hack out for yourself, Dedivanovic advises against applying additional product on top of the jelly. “You don’t want to put any powder over it – if you do, you’re screwed and you have to start all over again,” he mentioned. If you typically rely on a product to set your makeup and add a touch of extra glow, setting sprays are the way to go. For his look, Dedivanovic used Tatcha’s Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, but we also like Australis Make-Up Finishing Spritz and Caudalie Beauty Elixir.
