Inside Madelyn Cline's exact diet and exercise routine
Filming 'Outer Banks' is a workout in itself
If you’ve watched mere moments of Outer Banks, you’ll know that Madelyn Cline has to be one of the fittest women on the planet. All that running, all that swimming, all that climbing, phew! Like, in the third season, her character Sarah Cameron hikes up a literal mountain before journeying through a hidden cave and even making a terrifying leap across a giant drop; the real ones know.
But while she’s learned to have a healthy relationship with her body over the years, Cline has been open about the tough time she had with body image growing up. "When I was younger, I did struggle with eating disorders, specifically when I was a teenager," she shared with Women's Health. "I think I was around 16 when I started working out a lot. I would wake up every morning at 5am and I would work out for 30 minutes. It was super rigorous cardio every day. I started cutting calories. I would eat like six almonds for breakfast because I didn't want to counteract the cardio that I just did."
"It turned into not feeding myself protein and not feeding my body what it needed when I was working out so much," Cline continued. "I worked out multiple times during the day. All I knew was I wasn't achieving a particular body image, and so I was angry. I was harming myself and starving myself in the process of trying to achieve that."
Luckily, her family was able to help provide perspective, and guide her on a journey toward appreciating and nourishing her body. "My mum was a wonderful help in that. She would stand there in the mirror with me and we would list out things that I liked about my body," she confirmed. "After that repetition those things became solidified in my mind. I like my curves, I like my hips, and after a while I started to love my body. I became so much happier."
So what are some of the healthier patterns she's picked up along said journey? Let’s break them down…
