Half Magic just dropped a ‘Priscilla’-inspired makeup kit
Now we can *finally* nail winged liner
ICYMI, there’s another Elvis movie – or more specifically, Priscilla Presley movie – coming in November based on her 1985 memoir Elvis and Me. With Cailee Spaeny immortalising the icon on the big screen alongside Euphoria star Jacob Elordi as Elvis, Priscilla is set to be an instant classic. But TBH we’re most excited for the return of ‘60s glam, which has already taken over the runways of Spring/Summer ‘24 fashion month.
And thankfully, makeup artist and co-founder of Half Magic Beauty, Donni Davy, is speaking our language. The genius behind all the iconic Euphoria makeup looks has just launched a makeup kit inspired by the upcoming Priscilla movie.
The collab between Half Magic and A24 (the production company behind Priscilla and Euphoria) is a first for the brand but doesn’t come as a complete surprise.
“Priscilla was speaking my language,” Davy told Forbes. “I thought [the makeup] was a character in the film. I was so taken aback and altered a little bit by the part in the film where you see that Elvis is pushing her to go with heavier eye makeup and dye her hair… he is turning her into this vampy character, this sex kitten, full transformation from school girl to glamorous icon, and it kind of became her identity.”
Half Magic Beauty Priscilla kit
Nothing epitomises Presley’s ‘60s glam quite like a bold winged eye and beehive hair. And whilst we can’t help you with a glossy beehive, Half Magic has got the eye makeup covered. The Priscilla x Half Magic Set has “all the holy grail products you need to achieve Priscilla Presley’s iconic 1960s winged eye look with ease”, according to the description.
The kit includes everything you need to create a flawless winged eye: the Magic Flik Liquid Eyeliner ($36 at Half Magic), Wing Magician ($16 at Half Magic), and Eyelectric Extreme Lengthening Mascara in ‘Urchin’ ($40 at Half Magic). You can snag the Priscilla x Half Magic Set for $79 at Half Magic. And yes, the brand does ship to Australia (a rarity, TBH).
While Half Magic isn’t stocked in any major Australian beauty retailers, it recently launched into 465 Ulta Beauty stores across North America. So we have everything crossed that Half Magic will hit our shores very soon so we can sample the entire line before buying – but we’ll settle for international shipping in the meantime…
How to create Priscilla Presley’s winged eyeliner
"Priscilla's signature look made her a beauty icon that transcends time," Davy recently said in an interview with Byrdie. "Millions of people have been inspired by her iconic winged eye look."
But Davy herself is the first to admit that creating a winged eye isn’t as easy as it looks. “Getting perfectly angled, crisp, sharp wings can be hard for even the pros,” she said. Luckily, the Priscilla x Half Magic Set takes all the frustration out of the process.
"Place the [Wing Magician] silicone diamond at the outer corner of the eye and select an angle and placement that almost extends your lower lash line. Then, draw a line along the edge of the guide using a liquid eyeliner pen,” Davy explains.
Next step: filling in the wing. Remove the silicone guide and use the Magic Flik Liquid Eyeliner to connect the top of the wing to the last line.
And for the finishing touch, Davy adds a thin, slanted line on the inner corner to level-up the drama. Add a coat or two of the Eyelectric Extreme Lengthening Mascara (which Davy swears is the closest mascara you can get to falsies, sans the hassle) and you’ve got yourself the perfect ‘60s glam.
